Clothes make the man: Elegant at the Frankfurt Christmas market

Finally again Christmas market in Frankfurt. One who is particularly happy about it is Thomas Roie (58). Roie has been 1st chairman of the Schaustellerverband Frankfurt Rhein-Main e.V. since 2013. The Roie family is the fifth generation to pursue the profession of showman. His wife Bettina, their children Emily and Mike and his brother Peter are also active showmen. The family clan now numbers a total of twenty people, and even the oldest relatives are still pitching in at the age of 80.

From November 21 to December 22, 2022, the Frankfurt Jumping Horse Carousel will once again be one of the very big attractions (and one of the most popular photo motifs) at the Frankfurt Christmas Market. 3,500 energy-saving LED filament bulbs perfectly illuminate the 24 horses, 2 carriages and 2 Driller revolving carousels and contribute to the incomparable atmosphere in the run-up to Christmas on Frankfurt's Römerberg. "There is room for 50 guests on the carousel and we have many children as well as adults who like to go a few rounds with us. It takes eight hours to set up the carousel with 15 strong women and men, then comes the fine-tuning and cleaning until the horses and carriages shine in bright splendor," says Thomas Roie. And shortly before the start of the Frankfurt Christmas market, Roie himself is shining, in a red velvet tuxedo by Stephan Görner. For the campaign "Clothes make the man" this month the profession of the showman was selected.

Before in work clothes with cordless screwdriver and screwdriver and then in fine thread, photographer Manuel Dorn always beautifully sets the scene for the various professions and the people behind them, says Görner. Recognition, appreciation and respect for unusual or sometimes dangerous professions are the message of the campaign, which has been around since 2015. The lighthouse project of the campaign is the annual charity gala "Kleider machen Leute". This will take place again on March 25, 2023. More information will follow later.
