Congratulations - Frankfurt's new Old Town wins international MIPIM Award 2019

On Thursday evening, Frankfurt had reason to celebrate. No, not because Eintracht won. No, in Cannes the winners of this year's MIPIM Awards were announced: DomRömer GmbH won with its project to rebuild Frankfurt's old city centre.

Mayor Peter Feldmann, as chairman of the DomRömer supervisory board, accepted the award in person with the Frankfurt delegation at a ceremony at the Palais de Festival in Cannes. He was delighted about the victory, which he had hoped for since the nomination: "With the reconstruction of the old town in the centre of Frankfurt, the city has regained its historical heart. The project thus exemplifies how urban renewal projects can heal urban planning ills. A major success factor is architectural and craftsmanship quality, public spaces that can be experienced, and a diverse mix of uses in interaction with the neighborhood."

The project manager of DomRömer GmbH, Marion Spanier-Hessenbruch, thanked all those involved: "Ten years ago, the city of Frankfurt am Main gave us the unique opportunity to implement this wonderful and unique project. We are proud to have been in the final together with great projects from all over the world. We are very happy to be able to take this award back to Frankfurt today," said Feldmann and Spanier-Hessenbruch.

The award application was initiated by the Economic Development Department under City Councillor Markus Frank, which implemented it with DomRömer GmbH. A total of 205 projects from 58 countries competed for the MIPIM Awards in 11 categories. The international jury selected 45 of these projects for the final. The winners were chosen by an international jury as well as the trade fair audience.

In addition to the Dom-Römer site, three other projects worldwide were up for selection: China with the "Changchun Culture of Water Ecology Park", Moscow with "Zaryadye park with a functional concert complex" and Taiwan with the project "National Kaohsiung Centre fort he Arts".

After three heavily attended trade fair days, this year's trade fair ends for the city of Frankfurt with a very successful trade fair appearance as well as the winning of the MIPIM Award 2019.
