Corona hygiene measures ensure safety and cleanliness at Frankfurt Central Station

Corona hygiene measures ensure safety and cleanliness at Frankfurt Central Station

Frankfurt Main Station is an important rail transport hub for Deutsche Bahn. Additional hygiene measures ensure safety and cleanliness here even in times of Corona.

Dividers, spacer floor stickers and barrier tapes help to keep the appropriate distance in customer-relevant areas such as the DB Information, but also in the shops. Banners and displays with rules of conduct also point out the minimum distance, among other things. DB Service and DB Security staff all wear mouth-to-nose coverings.

Hartmut Schwarz, station manager at Frankfurt Central Station, emphasises: "The many measures implemented at the Central Station ensure that travellers are healthy and safe. In addition to increased cleaning and maintaining distance, however, we also relied on innovative procedures, such as the technical disinfection of the handrails on the escalators."

The handrails of two escalators leading to the S-Bahn distribution level are disinfected by UV-C light irradiation. The technology, which has been installed over the past two days, is being used at Frankfurt Central Station for the first time at a station. Stickers point to the sterile handrails.

A total of around 30 employees take care of cleaning in the station every day. They clean door handles, handrails, glass surfaces and the operating systems of ticket and snack machines as well as the elevators.

In addition, disinfection dispensers are set up at the entrances and service areas and passengers can wash their hands free of charge in the washroom of the toilet facility. Station manager Schwarz, however, asks travelers regardless of this to adhere to the hygiene and distance rules.
