Coronavirus: Buses and trains run as in the summer holidays

Buses and trains in Frankfurt am Main will operate from Wednesday, March 18, according to the summer holiday schedule. In coordination with the city of Frankfurt am Main, the municipal public transport company traffiQ and the transport company Frankfurt am Main (VGF) are thus pressing the consequences of the fact that classes in schools in the state are suspended and generally fewer passengers use public transport. The step is being taken because not only do schoolchildren no longer use public transport to get to school, but also drivers of underground trains, trams and buses have school-age children who need to be looked after under these circumstances and cannot stay at home on their own. The cancellation of further journeys in the coming days is possible and more severe restrictions on public transport cannot be ruled out. Due to the short notice, the information systems will also not always be able to reflect the current status.

traffiQ, VGF and the contracted bus companies are thus drawing a further consequence from the Corona pandemic. Further measures have already been implemented.

The mobility center "Verkehrsinsel" at the Hauptwache, the VGF ticket center in the Hauptwache passage and in the Bockenheimer Warte have been closed since Monday, March 16. In Frankfurt's city transport system, the front door of the buses will remain closed until further notice. Passengers can use the other doors to get on and off the buses. This is to avoid a possible transmission of the virus between bus driver and passengers. Drivers of subways, trams and buses are asked to open the doors at all stations and stops. Passengers then no longer have to press the buttons. Only on some older trams is this not possible. The VGF has intensified the cleaning of its vehicles. In addition to regular cleaning, some vehicles are disinfected at night in the depots. Disinfection during rolling operation is not possible. VGF has published further restrictions of the service offer, such as closures of ticket centers, today on the website http://www.vgf-ffm.de.

Tickets are still compulsory. Passengers please purchase tickets as season tickets before starting their journey, via the RMV app or at the latest when changing at a station with a ticket vending machine.

Further measures of the VGF:

The operation of the Ebbel-Ex (regular and rental service) will be discontinued. The transportation museum will remain closed. The Easter Bunny Express will not run this year. The info bus has been discontinued. Passenger information in stations by VGF staff will be discontinued, but information will be available "at the touch of a button" at the omnipresent emergency call and information pillars by the operations control centre.

The VGF has decided on further restrictions that will have an effect both internally and externally:

The Girls Day planned for 26 March must unfortunately be cancelled. Internships can no longer be offered until further notice. In general, all visits and tours of VGF properties will be discontinued or cancelled. Business and training trips will not be taken.

The following offers

<x>will not be discontinued.N</x>

- Lost and found

- Presence of law enforcement in stations and vehicles <./p>

- Passenger escort service, but there will be restrictions here in individual cases

- Some of the steps are already in place, others will come into effect from tomorrow. They apply until further notice.

In order to protect passengers and staff as best as possible against transmission of the Corona virus, traffiQ and VGF ask all passengers to take the necessary precautions: It is currently particularly important to heed hygiene rules such as sufficiently long and thorough hand washing or sneezing into the crook of the arm.
