Coronavirus leads to forced break for Bundesliga

Update: The 26th matchday of the football Bundesliga, which should be played this weekend, is now postponed after all. Thus, the game of Eintracht against Borussia Mönchengladbach will not take place as planned this Sunday (15.03.)!

Almost hourly, the situation seems to change due to the effects of the Coronavirus. What seems to be self-evident yesterday, looks completely different today. This affects our everyday life as well as our leisure activities. Events, concerts, fairs and sports - the Coronavirus whirls everything upside down. And since the situation is likely to get worse, the presidium of the German Football League has proposed in a special meeting to suspend the game operation in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga from next Tuesday until (for now) 02.04.

A final decision on this is to be made at the general meeting, which will be held next Monday. Nevertheless, the current season is to be finished by the summer. A premature end of the season is to be avoided at all costs, as this could threaten the existence of some clubs. However, it is questionable whether spectators will be allowed back into the stadiums in the event of a resumption at the beginning of April. The fact is that no fans will be allowed at this weekend's matches - which, as things stand, are scheduled to take place. To this end, the DFL and the individual clubs are appealing to all fans not to congregate outside the stadiums either.

Because the health of the entire population and thus also of all football fans and all players in the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga has top priority. It is now important that we all stick together and everyone does his part to defuse the situation, even if that means for the moment also times renunciation. The more who stick to it, the better the spread of the virus will be contained, which in the end will mean a return to normality for all of us. So just cheer on your favourite club from the comfort of your TV chair this weekend!

By the way, all UEFA club competition matches will also be postponed next week, including the round of 16 second leg between Eintracht Frankfurt and FC Basel. We'll keep you posted!
