Costumes, confetti, Kreppel: Frankfurt celebrates the fifth season

The fifth season reached its exuberant climax in the Main metropolis last weekend. Under the motto "Frankfurt's carnival like never before, full of electricity and energy!", the city center was transformed into a colorful stronghold of foolish hustle and bustle. The highlights were the traditional storming of the town hall on Saturday and the big carnival parade on Sunday, which attracted thousands of revellers to the streets.

Storm on the Römer: The fools take over the town hall

Punctually at 13.11 a.m. on Saturday: the Frankfurt fools led by the prince and princess couple, His Royal Highness Prince Alexander II. and Her Sweetness Princess Heike I., and the children's prince and princess, Prince Nick I and Princess Kim II, stormed the town hall. Mayor Mike Josef welcomed the carnival delegation with cheerful resistance, but ultimately had to admit defeat and symbolically handed over the keys to the town hall. "The colourful sea of costumes and cheerful faces shows the enthusiasm and commitment that characterize Frankfurt's carnival", emphasized Josef in his speech. With the hoisting of the carnival flag, it was official: the city was under foolish regency.

The big carnival parade: a colorful spectacle through the city

The highlight of the festival weekend followed on Sunday with the traditional carnival parade. From 12.21 pm, the carnival procession, accompanied by music groups, colorful floats and cheerful groups on foot, made its way through the city center towards the Eiserner Steg and the banks of the Main. Mayor Josef also mingled with the carnival crowd and accompanied the procession on the Grand Council's float for the honorary senators.

Axel Heilmann, President of the Grand Council of Carnival Associations, emphasized the importance of carnival for the city: "Despite difficult times and political uncertainties, we have succeeded in organizing this traditional procession. My thanks go to everyone involved, the helpers and the sponsors who made this possible." With a triple "Frankfurt Helau!", the cheerful procession made its way through the streets.

Creppelkaffee and honors in the Römer

After the procession, the city hosted the traditional Kreppelkaffee in the Römer. In a convivial atmosphere, people laughed, feasted and continued the foolish hustle and bustle. In a festive setting, members of the Grand Council presented gifts to the prince and princess couple and the children's prince and princess couple in the Ludwig Landmann Hall and awarded carnival medals to deserving supporters of carnival.

Finale in Klaa Paris

The carnival hustle and bustle comes to a close on Tuesday, March 4, with the traditional carnival parade in Klaa Paris. This is the last opportunity for those who want to celebrate once again before the carnival season ends with Ash Wednesday.
