Disability-friendly public bus will be presented at World MS Day 2019 in Frankfurt

In Hesse, World MS Day has been a fixed date in the calendar of the state association of the MS self-help organization since 2009 to draw attention to the still incurable disease, to reduce fear of contact and to show how a self-determined life is possible despite MS. An eye-catching and informative educational campaign has been prepared by the DMSG Hessen for Frankfurt. On Wednesday, May 29, the age- and disability-friendly "Easybus 2.0" will be presented from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Roßmarkt. Iveco Bus, together with DB Regio Bus and the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences, has designed this new regular service bus, with which older people or people with restricted mobility can travel their routes more safely.

At 1.30 p.m., Prof. Dr. Christian T. Haas (Director of the Institute for Complex Systems Research at the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences) will explain the development of the "Easybus" on site. Experts from Iveco Bus and DB Regio Bus will also be available to answer further questions on the subject of barrier-free mobility. Bernd Crusius (Managing Director of the DMSG Hessen) will then address the hurdles that people with disabilities face on a daily basis in his short speech, while Prof. Dr. Björn Tackenberg (Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board of the DMSG Hessen) will provide information on current developments in drug therapy for MS sufferers. Representing the city of Frankfurt will be Sören Schmidt, Commissioner for People with Disabilities, as well as Claudia Hontschik, an MS-affected educator, supervisor and author. In her book "Frau C. hat MS" (Ms. C. has MS), published in 2018, Hontschik reports, among other things, on the barriers she faces in Frankfurt as a wheelchair user.

In addition, the DMSG Hessen, self-help groups from Frankfurt and the surrounding area, as well as the Frankfurt MS counselling centre, which is based at Wittelsbacherallee 86, will present themselves at an information stand on the Roßmarkt. Doris Althofen, head of the counselling centre, will be available on site to answer questions. Also, interested people can feel symptoms of multiple sclerosis, such as balance problems, impaired sense of touch, numbness or visual disturbances, at the feeling street set up at the information stand.
