Discovery of an aerial bomb at Frankfurt Airport - UPDATE from FFM Aktuell

UPDATE: The evacuation and defusing went according to plan! The aerial bomb on the Gateway Garden site could be defused by the explosive ordnance disposal service of the Darmstadt regional council at 01:30 today. The measures were subsequently withdrawn. The roads were reopened and guests could be returned to their hotels.
(ots) - (fue) In the course of construction work, workers came across a US aerial bomb at around 11:00 this morning. It is type GP100 with a total weight of 50 kg.
Defusing the bomb is scheduled for the night of September 20. The defusing is scheduled to begin at 01:00 and be completed by 02:00.The safety radius required for this is 500 meters. The following hotels are located in this area and will have to be evacuated:Meininger, Moxy, Holiday Inn, Park Inn, Element.
Stay options are to be made available for guests in other hotels. Stay facilities will also be provided in the airport's Terminal 1.
The BAB A3 motorway will be closed between Mönchhofdreieck and Frankfurter Kreuz from 00.30 hours. The B43 trunk road will be closed at the same time between Kelsterbach and the Frankfurter Kreuz junction.
The Terminal 2 multi-storey car park is also within the security radius. Here, the last entry will be allowed until 9.30 p.m., and the last exit at 11.00 p.m.
Suburban rail services and the ICE line will not be affected by the closures.
