Eintracht Frankfurt celebrates DFB Cup on Römerberg

Eintracht Frankfurt celebrates DFB Cup on Römerberg

Let's be honest: everyone hoped for it, but only a few believed in it. When the DFB Cup final kicked off, Eintracht Frankfurt took to the pitch rather as underdogs against FC Bayern Munich in Berlin. But thanks in no small part to two great goals from Ante Rebic, Eintracht were able to make the miracle of Berlin a reality: A great 3:1 victory marked the successful return of the Eagles and Eintracht Frankfurt celebrated the DFB Cup victory for the fifth time in their history after 1974, 1975, 1981 and 1988.

This was vigorously celebrated by the fans on the ground in Berlin, but of course also in Frankfurt, immediately after the game. But also on Whitsunday the cheering continued - and to an almost unimagined extent. Römerberg and Paulsplatz were already filled long before the arrival of the winners. When the team then drove in an open motorcade from the airport through the city centre, they were cheered along the route by thousands of enthusiastic fans. Some of them could hardly get through, which is why the fans had to be a little patient at the Römer. Instead of 4:30 p.m. as planned, the players didn't step onto the balcony until well after 6 p.m.

The mood did this of course no harm. it was cheered, sung and jumped. Unfortunately, some Bengalos were ignited again, which obscured the view of the cup winners, especially at the beginning. But even this did not spoil the mood of the cheering masses - as well as the visibly enthusiastic players and their departing coach Niko Kovac.

Frankfurt showed on this day how the city can also celebrate very spontaneously very big. An extremely full, but also joyful reception that will certainly be long remembered by all fans and the team
