For the fans it was clear for a long time, now it is official: Eintracht Frankfurt is "Team of the Year 2022". This great honor was bestowed on the team of head coach Oliver Glasner as probably the last highlight of an eventful and successful year 2022 for Eintracht on Sunday evening in Baden-Baden. In the "Sportsman of the Year" vote, the Eagle Bearers were awarded the title of "Team of the Year". Thus, the Eintracht received one of the largest awards that the sport in this country holds and which is awarded to teams since 1957 to individual athletes already since 1947,.
For the first time in the history of the vote, German sports journalists eligible to vote chose Eintracht Frankfurt - as only the sixth team from the men's Bundesliga. Club president Peter Fischer deservedly proudly accepted the award under the proven moderation of Katrin Müller-Hohenstein and Rudi Cerne.
The significance of the award becomes clear when one looks at the other teams nominated in this category: In the summer, the women's national team advanced to the finals of the European Championship. With a lot of courage, passion and a unique team spirit, this team inspired the whole of soccer Germany. Many Eintracht players were also in the squad and played their part in this successful tournament.
Eintracht President Peter Fischer says of the choice: "What the team has achieved this year is magnificent. We have sparked something not only in Frankfurt and in the region with our incredible fans. We have given away goose bumps in the subscription to Germany and carried enthusiasm, passion and excitement to Kiel and the Zugspitze."
Head coach Oliver Glasner was extremely grateful: "On behalf of the entire team, I would like to thank you very much for the award for 'Team of the Year'. We accept this award as Eintracht Frankfurt for all those who helped to win the Europa League title in May: All the players, coaches and staff of the club - and of course the fans who accompanied and supported us on this great journey through Europe to the final in Seville. I would also like to thank everyone in Germany who kept their fingers crossed for us on May 18. It felt like all of Germany was Eintracht fans and helped us."
Sebastian Rode added: "The title 'Team of the Year' is one of the most important awards you can get in Germany. The election fills us with pride. We made history in 2022 and achieved something very special. Anyone who knows me knows that I watch a lot of sports on TV and therefore know what excellent athletes and, of course, teams we have in Germany. That's why I know how important the prize is. We join the ranks of great teams with our team and our club."
Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp says: "Many thanks to all voters. Us makes this award proud and it is a great recognition, because there were outstanding athletes to vote! With our great fans, we succeeded in inspiring all of Germany, perhaps all of Europe, in April and May. Also in the new year, we will do everything to continue this development."
And player Martin Hinteregger summed up, "It was a historic year, we had unforgettable games and it was a unique season. We as a team are extremely grateful for this support. We thank everyone who voted for us and supported us this year."
