First double-storey bicycle parking facility for Frankfurt am Main

(kus) An important day for all cyclists in Frankfurt am Main: the first double-storey bicycle parking facility is ready for use. Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann and Head of Transport Klaus Oesterling put it into operation on Monday, August 7.

The facility has been completed ahead of schedule. It can accommodate a total of 96 bicycles. The costs amount to about 49,000 euros. Due to a special hydraulic system, users can also park e-bikes: The construction allows the parking of bikes up to 25 kilograms total weight.

The lack of space and the resulting chaotic parking situation at Konstablerwache will soon come to an end. Mayor Feldmann clarified: "The installation of the bicycle parking facility is a success for ecological riding in Frankfurt. We have been working for years to offer more and more cyclists the possibility of orderly parking in the form of bicycle racks in the city. This facility is a good step towards making our city more bicycle-friendly."

The bicycle is becoming increasingly popular as a means of transport: Frankfurt is full of cyclists. However, this in itself positive development now leads to the pressing question: where should these bicycles be accommodated? "By providing parking facilities for bicycles, we are underlining our efforts to promote cycling as an ecological and sustainable form of transport in our city," stressed Head of Transport Klaus Oesterling.

The city of Frankfurt am Main already provides a wide range of bicycle parking facilities in public spaces. There are currently 8400 parking spaces in Frankfurt, 1000 of which are covered. Particularly in the city centre and at transport hubs such as underground and suburban railway stations, the city is constantly striving for further expansion. In this context, it is also being examined to convert covered facilities from the existing stock to double-deck facilities
