This is a great success in the anniversary year: in the first six days after the opening of the Blossom and Butterfly House (BSH), the Palmengarten counted a total of 18,711 visitors. In comparable periods, the figure was just under 11,000. The peak value per day is currently 4300 guests. Palmengarten Director Katja Heubach is proud of this success: "We are very pleased with this immense popularity and we would like to ensure that all our guests have an all-round successful visit."

Those wishing to visit the new house must currently be prepared for longer waiting times. These can last from a few minutes to an hour. Especially on weekends you should have plenty of time and patience. Heubach says: "To ensure that all guests have a chance to see the butterflies, we ask that you do not stay in the warm house for more than 15 minutes and that you stick to the one-way rule. This way you can marvel at the fluttering fellows in the steady flow. They also like to settle on the hair, clothes or bags of visitors. Therefore it is very important to check before leaving the house that none of the little fellows are accidentally transported outside. So please also close the chain curtains at the entrances and exits swiftly." It is also important not to touch the butterflies or plants. Not even if a butterfly is sitting on the ground. If it does, it is taking a breather. At the same time, care should be taken to avoid a butterfly sitting on the ground.

"Despite the rush of visitors, there is an almost reverent atmosphere in the house, with the butterflies causing great amazement among young and old alike," Heubach describes. "In order to share this experience with as many guests as possible, we ask that you follow our little guide to visiting the Blossom and Butterfly House."

During our visit, we were able to convince ourselves of the very special atmosphere in the house and have to say: it really is a particularly beautiful experience, for which even the waiting time - which for us (during the week around noon), however, was no longer than 10 minutes - is worthwhile. And the rest of the Palmengarten is always worth a visit anyway. The Flower and Butterfly House is open daily from 9am to 6.30pm. The last admission is at 6 pm. The house along with the new exhibition "Dusted off - of flowers and their visitors" is not a temporary, but a permanent facility. The first fluttering period lasts until December, after which there will be a break. From spring 2022 new pupae will be delivered, the butterflies will flutter again.
