Frankfurt among the world's top 50 startup cities

Frankfurt among the world's top 50 startup cities

(kus) Frankfurt has taken an enormous upswing in the startup scene in recent years - in 2017, the Rhine-Main metropolis was now included in the circle of the world's top 50 startup locations for the first time as part of the "Global Startup Ecosystem Survey".

The study compares and evaluates the attractiveness and conditions of cities for startups and thus provides a sound insight into the different ecosystems. Along with Berlin, Frankfurt is the only German city to make it into the top 50. In the global ranking, Silicon Valley, New York and London are at the top.

Oliver Schwebel, Managing Director of Wirtschaftsförderung Frankfurt GmbH, is delighted with the result: "Frankfurt has thus moved up into the top league of start-up cities worldwide. With the Tech Quartier, we have also had an internationally attractive attraction for start-ups since the end of 2016."

The analysis proves the dynamic growth of the startup scene in the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main metropolitan region and the high B2B potential in the Frankfurt financial centre. The comprehensive and widespread know-how in the financial sector as well as the quality of the junior staff trained at the universities were also particularly highlighted.

The Economic Development Agency had provided intensive support to the Frankfurt Tech Quartier in carrying out the study. "Our aim now is to join forces with the relevant players to further develop the start-up ecosystem in a targeted manner and to take advantage of the positive trend," said Schwebel.

The study by Silicon Valley-based data service provider Startup Genome was the first to analyze the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main startup scene in cooperation with TechQuartier.
