Frankfurt Bird Day again offers a diverse program

Visit with stork and wheatear

(ffm) There could hardly be a more suitable location for this festival: Bonames/Kalbach airfield, Am Burghof 55, will be the venue for Frankfurt Bird Day 2019 on Sunday, 12 May.

The Environmental Agency invites bird lovers young and old to the festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The biodiversity, not only of bird life, at the old airfield is remarkable. The species population has steadily increased in recent years. Ducks are just as much at home at the airfield as storks, kingfishers, yellowhammers or wheatears. Nightingale and reed warbler also multiply here eagerly.

On Bird Day, ornithologist Martin Hormann from the bird sanctuary will introduce the world of birdsong from 8.30 am. Children and families can spend the whole day watching chicks hatch, building nesting boxes, listening to bird songs, or investigating the mysteries of flight, among other things. There will also be painting, crafts, games and puzzles.

A special attraction this year will be the storyteller, who will exclusively tell bird tales. At 1:30 p.m., Rosemarie Heilig, the department head for the environment and women, will welcome visitors to the event. Participation is free of charge, registration is not required.
