Frankfurt builds multifunctional arena - New hall for basketball, ice hockey and concerts

The city council has voted by a clear majority in favor of building a new multifunctional arena in Deutsche Bank Park. This will turn a decades-long project into reality. The arena is due to be completed by 2032 and will offer space for 12,000 spectators for sporting events and even up to 15,000 for concerts.

The decision has caused great joy, especially among the Lions and Skyliners. "We are overjoyed that the city of Frankfurt is finally keeping its promise," explained Dr. Gunnar Wöbke, Managing Partner of the basketball club. The new hall will not only secure the Skyliners' continued existence in the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga, but could also bring international competitions to Frankfurt.

The project is expected to cost at least 250 million euros and will be financed by the city. In order to ensure cost-effective operation, a possible award to Eintracht Frankfurt is being discussed. Lord Mayor Mike Josef (SPD) sees the construction as an essential step for Frankfurt's development.

The new arena will give Frankfurt a modern venue that will not only strengthen professional sport, but also make the city more attractive for major events such as European and World Championships as well as the planned German Olympic bid.
