Summer is slowly coming to an end and that means the city's cultural life is starting to pulsate more strongly again. A sign of this is the now 24th start of the season of Frankfurt's galleries, which will be celebrated with a weekend of open doors from 07 to 09 September.
"On the first weekend of September, the metropolis on the Main is all about contemporary art and its artists, attracting not only Frankfurt residents but also visitors from the surrounding area to the city. I very much welcome the fact that Sachsenhausen is taking part for the first time with no less than six stations, thus making the creative diversity of this district visible," says Frankfurt's head of culture Ina Hartwig.
Following the new conception in 2017, which included an expansion of the circle of participants beyond IG members, Frankfurt's off-rooms and galleries have again been invited to take part in this year's season opener. The Interessengemeinschaft welcomes previous and first-time participants such as Galerie Ulrich Gering, Galerie Parisa Kind, Galerie Perpétuel, Fichter Kunsthandel, Der Mixer, KA:OST, Frankfurter Künstlerclub, Yok Yok, Parkhaus-WK-16, Ausstellungshalle 1A and the Vitra Showroom.
A total of 44 galleries and 10 non-institutional exhibition spaces are participating, with the district of Sachsenhausen newly opened up with now 6 stations.
Among the Frankfurt galleries, there are four new establishments this year: Galerie-Peter-Sillem, Lachenmann Art, Schierke Seinecke and Sakhile&Me.
In addition to a total of more than 50 exhibitions, visitors to the 24th season launch can expect a diverse supporting program including free guided tours in German and English.
