Frankfurt illuminates streets for Ramadan for the first time

Frankfurt sets a shining example for peaceful coexistence

For the first time, the city of Frankfurt will illuminate public spaces during the fasting month of Ramadan to draw attention to the importance of this time. From March 10, crescent moons, stars and Fanoos lanterns will be visible along Grosse Bockenheimer Strasse, accompanied by a friendly "Happy Ramadan" sign.

This initiative follows the decision of the 2023 City Council and was implemented by Tourismus+Congress GmbH Frankfurt am Main and the AmkA, with the participation of the Freßgass' interest group.

Head of City Council Hilime Arslaner emphasizes: "Ramadan reminds us of what really matters in life: Food, a home and peaceful community with family, friends and neighbors. These basic values of living together, which are taught in all religions, are now visible and being lived in Frankfurt."

Mayor Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg sees the Ramadan lighting as a symbol of peaceful coexistence for all people in Frankfurt. She emphasizes its importance as a sign against exclusion and hatred and as a glimmer of hope in times of crisis. Eskandari-Grünberg thanks everyone involved for their support of this initiative.
