Frankfurt introduces 2G wristbands for retail

Frankfurt introduces 2G wristbands for retail

Following the example of other cities, the city of Frankfurt am Main is now also introducing the ribbon scheme for 2G control in retail outlets from Monday, 27 December. The aim is to make it easier for those vaccinated or recovering to access shops, which in turn will help retailers. There will also be a reduction in the workload, as checking 2G evidence can be a huge challenge, especially for smaller shops. The wristband can be obtained by all customers who have gained access to a retail outlet through identification in accordance with the Corona Protection Ordinance. Wearing the wristband is of course voluntary and no data is collected. The scope of application is valid at all participating sales outlets in the city area. To prevent possible abuse, the ribbon colors will change weekly.

"I am grateful and pleased that this year's Christmas market could be carried out through a balance of close regulatory coordination, a workable hygiene concept and the cooperation of all stakeholders involved. The initiated Christmas lighting on the Zeil also contributed to a beautiful inner city experience. It is not an easy situation for society and the economy. The Corona pandemic has again become more acute and threatening than ever during the winter season. It is therefore particularly important at this time to radiate confidence, courage and cohesion. At the moment, it is important to help the stationary trade in the city centre and in the city districts, which has seen a drop in sales of up to 50 percent, pragmatically and quickly. I am therefore pleased that we, as the city of Frankfurt am Main, have finally succeeded in introducing the practicable 2G wristband solution. This will ensure that long and tight queues in front of the shops at the end of the year are largely avoided and that the new year hopefully also begins with a liberated, spacious and safe shopping experience," says Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann. "I would like to express my sincere thanks for the interdepartmental cooperation, to the city marketing/city marketing, the business development department, the Hesse trade association, the Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce and the participating retailers for the close consultation during the implementation," Feldmann adds.

It is important to know: Despite the one-time check when the ribbons are issued, checks of the 2G status can be carried out again at any time, also to prevent misuse. The checks will be supported by the Public Order Office of the City of Frankfurt. Head of the Ordnungs- und Sicherheitsdezernentin Annette Rinn explains: "I am pleased that the citizens of Frankfurt will also have the opportunity to visit shops and facilities where the 2G rule applies in an uncomplicated manner. Nevertheless, it must be clear that valid vaccination certificates and identity cards must be carried, as there may also be checks by the city police despite the ribbon rule."
