Frankfurt mourns watch pioneer Helmut Sinn

One of Frankfurt's greats passed away on Wednesday at the age of 101: Helmut Sinn, a former aerobatics instructor and former World War II pilot, was considered a visionary in the field of aviation watch and chronograph development. He was a true personality who gave the watch industry many valuable impulses with his entrepreneurial spirit and ideas.

About 10 years ago, the film portrait "The Time Machine" about Helmut Sinn premiered at the German Film Museum. The film talks quite extensively about Sinn's childhood, his time as an aviator, rally driver or even his beginnings as a watch manufacturer. But those who were lucky enough to talk to Sinn himself after the screening quickly realized that the film only scratched the surface. Helmut Sinn was a lateral thinker and a trailblazer, a man of action who put his ideas into practice himself and even in his old age never thought of retiring completely.

For Frankfurt, he was an important figure, especially as an entrepreneur. He founded the watch manufacturer Sinn Spezialuhren in Rödelheim in 1961, which he sold in 1994. A short time later, he brought the headquarters of the Swiss watch manufacturer Guinand, of which he was the owner until his retirement at the age of 98 (!), to the Main metropolis, where high-quality chronographs are still produced today under new management.

After a short illness, Helmut Sinn passed away on February 14, 2018. <link https: www.guinand-uhren.de kondolenzbuch.html _blank>Those who wish to express their condolences or share their very special memories of Helmut Sinn can do so HERE in Guinand's book of condolences.
