Frankfurt prepares for new 'Sommermärchen'

(kus) After the city of Frankfurt am Main applied to the German Football Association (DFB) <link https: www.frankfurt-tipp.de ffm-aktuell s ugc fussball-em-2024-frankfurt-is-vom-dfb-as-austragungsortort-ausgewaehlt-worden.html _blank>And won the bid on September 15, it has been confirmed that Frankfurt will become one of ten venues for UEFA EURO 2024 - if Germany is chosen to host the 2024 European Championship. Until the decision between Germany and Turkey is made by UEFA in September 2018, a variety of tasks have to be fulfilled, taking into account a tight time frame. Mayor Peter Feldmann has therefore set up the staff unit "European Football Championship (EM) 2024" in the sports department with immediate effect, which reports directly to the head of the sports department. The new staff unit, which has been coordinated with the head of the sports department, Markus Frank, coordinates and controls all municipal activities under the leadership of the former head of the sports department, Georg Kemper.

"I am delighted that, following the 1974 and 2006 World Cups, the 1988 European Football Championship and the 2011 Women's World Cup, the city of Frankfurt am Main will be able to host an internationally renowned football event for the fifth time," said Feldmann. "In order to be able to manage the tasks associated with the bid of the city of Frankfurt am Main within the tight time horizon and to be able to quickly start working on a detailed event, hospitality, sustainability and security concept after Germany has won the bid, I have concentrated the tasks and responsibilities in the new staff unit." Frankfurt is preparing for a new summer fairy tale, says the Lord Mayor.

The staff unit's tasks will initially include analysing the DFB's evaluation of the city's bid documents and drawing up and implementing a strategy for fine-tuning these documents as part of the DFB's national bid to UEFA. In addition, an inner-city WG EM 2024 is to be established and managed in cooperation with the other offices and businesses, and the network to the relevant associations and organisations, to the state government and state police, as well as to the other nine candidate cities is to be established.

"With Mr. Kemper, a nationally and internationally well-connected city executive with experience in the task at hand has been recruited for the management function of the staff unit. As head of the sports department, Mr Kemper was already keen to promote Frankfurt am Main as a city of sport with globally renowned events with a high emotional impact," said Markus Frank, head of the sports department.

"In his new role, he will give special impetus to Frankfurt am Main's bid to host the European Championships and will be personally committed to the success of Germany's bid." Initially, he said, the staff position would be filled with three employees, with readjustments to be made in September 2018 depending on the decision-making situation. Councillor Frank is pleased that the staff position could be set up at such short notice. This will make it easier to deal promptly with the outstanding issues of the bid together with the DFB and its partners.
