Frankfurt ReStart: Frankfurt fires up the engine

Slowly, things are starting to get back on track in Frankfurt: with the state ordinance reaching Stage 2, some Corona regulations have been relaxed and restrictions lifted. Especially retail and gastronomy benefit from this - even if of course one cannot speak of normality again by far. But the trend is definitely going in the right direction, so now is the time to talk about a new start for the affected industries. Help is to be given by a large campaign, which was presented on Monday, 07 June, in front of the Frankfurt Römer.

Mayor Peter Feldmann explains the aim of the campaign: "[...] Frankfurt ReStart wants to support trade, commerce and gastronomy [...] through actions with partners from media and business - in the form of posters and other advertising media", says Feldmann. And the mayor continues: "The Restart campaign is an important part of the Frankfurt Plan, with which we want to revitalise the city centre - and it comes at exactly the right time. The bright yellow of the campaign motif is no coincidence: hope is returning with the summer and the sun. I am convinced: soon not only Frankfurters and Frankfurterinnen will fill the alleys and shops of our city - but also numerous guests from all over the world."

Councillor Markus Frank is also convinced: "Frankfurt am Main is one of the most liveable cities in the world, for which retail, gastronomy and service companies are enormously important. This makes it all the more important now to create a path towards normality with Frankfurt ReStart, to support it and, above all, to draw attention to Frankfurt's businesses."

With Frankfurt ReStart, the already existing #EinkaufeninFrankfurt campaign will be continued and considerably expanded under the umbrella brand of Frankfurt am Start. The aim of Frankfurt ReStart is to promote support for retailers, restaurants and service providers in Frankfurt am Main, as well as awareness for local traders.

And: Not only shops, restaurants and service providers can actively participate in the campaign, but also consumers. They can take a picture of themselves with the "Frankfurt ReStart" sign (available for download at frankfurt-am-start.de) in their favourite shop or regular pub and post it on their social media channels with the hashtag #einkaufeninfrankfurt - as a sign of support for Frankfurt's economy.

"Wirtschaftsförderung Frankfurt and the City of Frankfurt am Main have launched joint activities such as the Vision Office and frankfurt.MeineStadt.digital alongside the ReStart campaign to support retailers. With the ReStart campaign, we are now taking a further step towards businesses and joining forces for a start out of the pandemic," adds Oliver Schwebel, Managing Director of Wirtschaftsförderung Frankfurt.

A pedestrian frequency analysis for the Zeil (Mitte) measured the average frequency per hour during normal retail hours. This confirms a clear slump in the number of passers-by during the pandemic (from the start of Lockdown "light" on 2 November 2020), which has not recovered to date. This is expected to improve again with Frankfurt Restart.
