Frankfurt Transport History Day - In historic buses and trains through Frankfurt

(ffm) On Sunday, 29 September, the 16th Frankfurt Transport History Day will take place from 10 am to 5 pm. It is organized by the associations Historische Straßenbahn der Stadt Frankfurt am Main (HSF), Historische Eisenbahn Frankfurt and the Frankfurt Feldbahnmuseum. Also taking part are the Rhine-Main Railway Forum, the Neu-Isenburg Model Railway Club and the Frankfurt-Griesheim Model Railway Club.

Open Day at the Historic Railway

The Historic Railway Frankfurt runs with a steam train between 10 am and 5 pm between the stops Eiserner Steg (Fahrtor) and Intzestraße. The trips, which start at 11.45am and 2.45pm at Eiserner Steg, will continue beyond Intzestraße to Signal Box IV. There, during a half-hour stop, visitors will have the opportunity to tour the signal box and receive expert explanations of the museum's technology.

Field railways, model railways and old-timers in the field railway museum

.More than 50 steam, diesel and electric locomotives, about 150 wagons of all kinds, from tipper lorries to small railway passenger cars, as well as the exhibitions in the halls and on the grounds of the Frankfurt Field Railway Museum document the former diversity of this means of transport. Some of the exhibits are more than 100 years old. A ride in a passenger train pulled by a steam locomotive is also recommended, as it travels through the attractive allotments and parks of Rebstockpark.

Parallel to the Day of Transport History, the Frankfurt Light Railway Museum is holding its 26th Oldtimer Meeting this weekend. Thereby, historical road and rail vehicles can be seen in the Rebstockpark. In addition, the Model Railway Club Frankfurt-Griesheim 83 and the Model Railway Club Neu-Isenburg will come to the Field Railway Museum. They will show different stages of construction of a model railway layout and their youth layout under construction and the legendary Swiss "Crocodile" in different gauges from Z to IIM.

Historic local transport at the VGF transport museum

The Frankfurt Transport Museum, part of the Frankfurt Transport Company (VGF), offers the opportunity to learn more about the history of local public transport in Frankfurt. In addition to many railcars and sidecars of the tram, buses and special vehicles from days gone by and the permanent exhibition "From the horse-drawn tram to modern times", several special exhibitions can be seen. In addition, there are many exhibits such as timetables and network plans, tickets, service clothing, destination signs as well as stops to admire. Children can try their hand at driving a historic tram in the children's driving school. In the museum shop, among other things, technical literature, vehicle models and postcards can be purchased.

Guided city tour through the history of the Frankfurt railway

At 10.45 clock starts at the stop Eiserner Steg (Fahrtor) of the historic railway a guided city tour through the history of the Frankfurt railway. The guided tour by Bernhard Hager of the German Society for Railway History outlines the period from 1839 to the present. Among other things, the port railway and the main station will be presented. In addition to the historical development of the railway, the history of the city as well as questions of architecture and urban development will also be considered.

Only a combined ticket of the Transport History Day is required to take part in the guided tour, no pre-registration is necessary.

Veteran trams and buses shuttle between the venues

The annual use of vintage trams and buses is very popular with visitors, as they bring transport history to life and bring it to life. The VGF's veteran trams run as Line V every 30 minutes from the Transport Museum via Niederrad, Stresemannallee/Gartenstraße, Hauptbahnhof/Münchener Straße, Altstadt, Lokalbahnhof and Südbahnhof to Louisa station and back. It will be possible to get on and off the historic trams at all stops along the route. In addition, a shuttle bus line will be set up. It will run every 30 minutes on a circular route from the Rheinlandstraße/Verkehrsmuseum stop via the Frankfurt Feldbahnmuseum and the Eisernen Steg (southern bank of the River Main). From there it goes along the southern bank of the Main back to the Transport Museum.

Combination tickets for museums and shuttle service

The combination tickets for adults and children, which are available at all venues as well as from the train conductors of the Historic Railway, are particularly practical. The tickets include admission to the Transport Museum, the Feldbahn Museum and the Historic Railway premises, as well as rides on the steam train between Eiserner Steg and Intzestraße and Signal Box IV, on the historic shuttle buses and on the trains of the Feldbahn Museum in Rebstockpark. At the box office, tickets cost 13 euros for adults, 7 euros for concessions and 29 euros for families (2 adults and 2 children). For the first time, tickets are also available in advance. They can be purchased during regular opening hours at the Verkehrsmuseum Frankfurt am Main for 12 euros (adults), 6 euros (children) or 27 euros (family).
