Frankfurt Vaccination Center expands its capacity

Frankfurt Vaccination Center expands its capacity

The vaccination campaign is expected to gain further momentum in Frankfurt in the coming weeks if possible. To make this possible, the Frankfurt Vaccination Center will continue to expand its capacity. Currently, up to 2700 citizens can be vaccinated there every day - be it with the first, second or booster vaccination. From mid-January, this number is to be increased to 3500 vaccinations daily. Preparations for this have been in full swing for several weeks: the vaccination center in exhibition hall 1.2 has been doubled in both space and personnel. The opening hours, however, remain unchanged: vaccinations continue to be given there every day from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

"Together with our partner, the German Red Cross, we have always kept the vaccination center open in Frankfurt, thus providing a reliable point of contact for many people in Frankfurt and the region. Now we have further strengthened this central vaccination center - so continue to take advantage of our even more versatile vaccination services!"

"Demand for vaccinations remains high. We are of course pleased about this and that is why we have now expanded the vaccination center once again," says the head of the Frankfurt health department and the vaccination center, Peter Tinnemann. "We are in the middle of the cold season and are also dealing with a new virus variant. It is all the more important that unvaccinated Frankfurt citizens get vaccinated and that those who have already been vaccinated have their vaccination refreshed. With the expansion of the vaccination center, we are making a contribution to being able to offer vaccinations to even more people every day. This applies to booster vaccinations and still, of course, to first and second vaccinations."

The vaccination center was opened at the end of December 2020, although it did not operate at full capacity at the beginning due to the very scarce vaccine supply at the time. Vaccination has already been taking place at the exhibition center for a year, initially in the Festhalle (where it was even accompanied by music during some special events). But after nine months and almost 500,000 vaccinations was the end, the deployment order of the state of Hesse to operate a vaccination center in Frankfurt am Main ended in September.

But the city of Frankfurt am Main decided that the vaccination center should continue to exist in order to offer Frankfurt citizens a central contact point for Covid 19 vaccinations. Therefore, the vaccination center moved to the exhibition grounds and has since been located in exhibition hall 1.2.

"The renewed expansion of the vaccination center naturally involved a few challenges. We needed new vaccination lines, more staff and had to remodel our space. We managed that well, so we were able to start the new year with more vaccinations again," says Marion Verg, Medical Hazard Prevention at the Frankfurt Health Department. With three new vaccination lines, 20 workstations for medical triage and vaccination documentation and a total of more than 1,000 employees, the vaccination center is ideally positioned to provide an attractive vaccination offer to all interested parties.

Since its opening a year ago, around 700,000 vaccinations have been administered at the vaccination center - first, second and, since October, booster vaccinations. Since August 2021, children and adolescents aged twelve and older have also been vaccinated at the vaccination center, and since mid-December 2021, children aged five and older have also been able to receive their corona vaccination. Vaccination is available by appointment only. This offer is very well received, the appointments are quickly taken. Appointments for children from five to eleven years can be made seven days in advance.

Since new appointments are posted daily, it is worth checking the registration page regularly at Online appointment booking of vaccination in Frankfurt - 1st questions about the appointment (terminland.de) to check.

In the vaccination center, an appointment should be made in advance to minimize waiting times. Confirmation of the appointment must be brought to the appointment. Making an appointment allows for better on-site planning. Nevertheless, there may be isolated waiting times.

The vaccination for all from twelve years is also possible at short notice - there are sufficient appointments. Registration is possible online at Online appointment booking of vaccination in Frankfurt - 1. Questions about the appointment (terminland.de).

The German Red Cross (DRK) has been appointed by the health department as the operator of the vaccination center since it opened. 146 DRK employees are currently on duty per shift. The Frankfurt Health Department and the DRK can look back on a successful collaboration over the past year. This has proven itself, with the DRK has the health department also this year a reliable partner at the side.

Further information on vaccination is available on the website of the city of Frankfurt at frankfurt.de/coronaimpfung available.
