When you walk through the supermarkets at the moment, you have to shake your head in disbelief at the empty shelves, especially when it comes to toilet paper. And the new bad news almost every hour can definitely make you despair a little. But in these turbulent and difficult times there is also good news. Signals that are positive and encouraging. This certainly includes numerous initiatives that have been founded on the Internet and on social media platforms to support people who are in need of help.
For example, the #Neighborhood Challenge has spread in no time on the net. This involves using notices to offer one's neighbours, should they belong to the risk group, one's help with shopping. Also for walking dogs, access to the Internet or going to the pharmacy can be offered to the neighbors. In the meantime, the Neighbor Challenge has found many participants and imitators. It shows that many people stand together in times of need. Even if one should not shake hands, one can open one's heart to one's fellow human beings. Sometimes it doesn't take much help at all, but just a nice greeting or a little chat (with the necessary distance) to make the forced isolation more bearable.
The initiative Corona Solidarity Frankfurt gathers in numerous chat groups, where participants can help targeted in their district. And for those who don't want to join a Telegram group, flyers are offered here for printing. In addition, there are various Facebook groups in Frankfurt and the surrounding area that are dedicated to the topic of neighbourly help in general, although at the moment, of course, the focus is entirely on shopping help for elderly neighbours.
