Freiluftkino Frankfurt enters its eighth season in 2021

Cinema in special places - this is now in its eighth year at FREILUFTKINO FRANKFURT. In the past, the open-air cinema has already been a guest on the former Deutsche Bank site in the city centre, on the Bockenheim campus, in the inner courtyard of the former Cantate hall or on the terrace of Le Panther. In the summer of 2021, the open-air cinema will return to last summer's venue: the grounds of Frankfurt's old police headquarters.

From 08 July, there will be a whole month of current audience favourites and cinematic highlights from around the world. There are blockbusters as well as arthouse gems and festival favourites. Real audience favourites and absolute insider tips. In short: a programme that will make all cinema fans' hearts beat faster, presented in a unique urban setting. The multi-award-winning film DER RAUSCH with Mads Mikkelsen, last year's audience favourite EINE FRAU MIT BERAUSCHENDEN TALENTEN, the cult classic NIGHT ON EARTH by Jim Jarmusch and Maria Schrader's celebrated directorial work ICH BIN DEIN MENSCH will all be screened. The advance sale has already begun.

After the LICHTER SOMMERKINO was allowed to ring in the open air cinema season in the past days in the old police headquarters, it is called from Thursday, 08 July, always on Thursdays to Sundays: Cinema under the open sky in an over 100 years old cultural monument of the city. This is guaranteed to be as successful as in previous years: "We are proud of 200 screenings, 180 films, 120 sold-out screenings and over 25,000 viewers* that we have been able to welcome in six unique locations since 2014!", say the open-air cinema makers Gregor Maria Schubert, Johanna Süß and Daniel Brettschneider, who brought this event to life eight years ago.

But the success does not come from nowhere: Because in connection with the respective selected locations and what is offered to the visitors there in addition to the films, a special summery city flair develops, which remains long in the memory. Also this year, the open-air cinema Frankfurt with a musical accompanying program, cold drinks at the open-air cinema bar and culinary delicacies from Brittany by Chez Vivi is more than cinema: It offers all-round successful summer evenings that invite you to linger in an impressive location of the Main metropolis.

The Old Police Headquarters between the main station and the exhibition grounds has been largely empty since 2002. Almost 20 years now, time has left its mark and created an off-location that gives the open-air cinema a very special charm.

The entrance to the Freiluftkino Frankfurt at the Old Police Headquarters (address: Ludwigstraße 18, 60327 Frankfurt am Main) is just a three-minute walk from the Messe Frankfurt.

Tickets are available for €10.00 per person in advance at www.freiluftkinofrankfurt.de. Admission is from 19:30, film start at sufficient darkness. Taking into account the current hygiene measures to contain the pandemic, the number of tickets per screening is limited.

All foreign language films are shown in the original version with German subtitles.
