From Easter the Lohrbergbus

27.03.2018 | 10:23 Clock | Service
From Easter the Lohrbergbus

The Lohrberg is a popular destination, especially for Frankfurt residents. Lots of green, a relaxing break from the noise of the city and still a fantastic view of the city. Many people are drawn here, especially at weekends. And from Easter onwards there will be a very good alternative to travelling by car: "On the Saturday before Easter, the people of Frankfurt will be able to enjoy a comfortable ride up their local mountain - without worrying about parking spaces or strenuous climbs", invites Klaus Oesterling, head of the city's transport department. Because on 31 March he will officially open the new Lohrberg bus. There will be free rides on the new line from Friedberger Warte to Lohrberg and back. One or the other little surprise is also planned.

The little blue-green bus with the route number 83, "Your bus to the mountain", will start its journey on Good Friday at the Friedberger Warte. The aim is clear: "The Lohrberg, a popular destination for excursions, can now be reached comfortably and quickly by bus in just a few minutes at weekends - without any worries about parking", says Oesterling, outlining the new service. The long walk or the steep climb from the bus stops to the Lohrberg is no longer necessary at weekends. Above all, there is no longer a good reason to drive up to the Lohrberg by car and clog up the access road there.

The Lohrbergbus already runs from Good Friday, March 30, to the Day of German Unity, October 3, every weekend and on holidays every half hour from 11 am to 9:30 pm. The tram starts at Friedberger Warte, where there is a connection from tram line 18 and bus line 30. The final stop is at the Lohrberg car park. On the way back, the bus will also stop at the Heiligenstock/Lohrberg bus stop. Due to the narrow road conditions on the Lohrberg, two minibuses powered by liquid gas are used, which offer eleven seats and 15 standing places. The line is operated by In-der-City-Bus GmbH.

With the Lohrbergbus, the transport department and the municipal public transport company traffiQ are making a renewed attempt to attract passengers in the leisure sector with this special local transport service. "We want to persuade people to switch to buses and trains, who in many cases still habitually use the car in their leisure time," says traffiQ managing director Hans-Jörg von Berlepsch.

Already in 2011 and 2012, the Lohrbergbus ran. However, as there were massive disruptions to operations caused by car traffic, passenger numbers also fell short of expectations. "In close coordination with all the offices involved, we will now ensure that the bus gets to the mountain and back on time," Oesterling is certain. A new bus stop will be set up in the Lohrberg car park and traffic monitoring staff will be on increased duty on the Lohrberg at weekends to prevent illegal parking.

because cars are a problem on the Lohrberg: an overcrowded parking lot and parked-up narrow driveways cause exhaust fumes and trouble there every weekend with nice weather. Therefore, the head of transport Oesterling and managing director von Berlepsch appeal to the Lohrberg visitors: "Use the Lohrbergbus and let yourself be driven to an Easter walk, to the barbecue or to lie in the sun easily, comfortably, and safely on Frankfurt's local mountain."
