Great success for the second German Comic Con in Frankfurt

Last weekend, Hall 4 of Messe Frankfurt turned into THE "Place to Be" for all comic, fantasy and scifi fans in Frankfurt. For the second time, the German Comic Con made a guest appearance in the Main metropolis and attracted even more visitors, fans and cosplayers this year than at the premiere. For many fans, of course, the celebrity guest stars are a main reason for visiting the German Comic Con. In 2018, Robert Patrick (Terminator 2, The X-Files, Sons of Anarchy, Scorpion), Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner), Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, Gilmore Girls), Aimee Garcia (Lucifer, Dexter), Jerome Flynn and Vladimir Furdik from "Game of Thrones" or even Theo Rossi and Marc Boone Jr from the series "Sons of Anarchy" paid their respects. Besides the panels, where they answered the questions of the fans, they were of course available for (paid) autographs, photos and in some cases selfies.

But also the significantly increased merchandising offer (you can really get poor as a fan!), the cosplay contest or great side events like a voice actor workshop or readings made for a successful event. In the Artist Alley various young artists presented themselves and there were some really nice photo opportunities - some of them paid (Big Bang Theory, Stranger Things or Evil Dead backdrops), others for free (Star Wars Tie-Fighter, Avengers Live), which were no less popular than the celebrity star guests. It was also nice to see that more visitors than last year came to Frankfurt ComicCon with sometimes very creative and lovingly designed costumes. Especially popular this year seemed to be the new "Star Wars" heroine Rey, Doctor Strange and the Guardians of the Galaxy. But also Deadpool, Haley Quinn and Lara Croft could be met several times.

A really nice innovation at this edition was that also a few voice actors were invited, who were not only available for photos and sound recordings, but also talked very honestly about their profession in interesting panels. It became clear how hard it is even for professionals like Ingo Albrecht (Dwayne Johnson), Tobias Müller (Jonah Hill among others) or Manuel Straube (Martin Freeman and Stewie in "Family Guy" among others) to deliver a good dubbing in times when a movie or a series is released worldwide on the same day.

Although there were a few points of criticism - for example the hall layout was not optimal - this second German Comic Con was again a complete success, not only because of the increased visitor interest - and for small and big nerds simply a little paradise. Let's hope that the organisers are satisfied enough to continue the event in Frankfurt in 2019. We are looking forward to it!
