Hamburg is experiencing a true Harry Potter hype: with over 500,000 visitors*, Harry Potter and the Enchanted Child has achieved an impressive success this month. But that's not all fans of this magical universe have to celebrate. This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the first Harry Potter book in Germany.
From August 2, 2023, the new cast will take over the stage of Harry Potter and the Enchanted Child. Josef Ellers will then wave the wands as the new Harry Potter, while Mattis Moll will take on the role of Harry Potter's son Albus. At his side, Fabian Koller will shine as Scorpius Malfoy. The rest of the main cast remains unchanged, including Zodwa Selele as Hermione Granger, Sebastian Witt as Ron Weasley, Sarah Schütz as Ginny Potter, Meera Steinfatt as Rose Granger-Weasley and Alen Hodzovic as Draco Malfoy.
Josef Ellers, who was born in Austria, is looking forward to his role and Hamburg: "Being allowed to be part of this unique production as Harry Potter fills me with great pride. And Hamburg already fascinates me very much. When I'm not on stage playing or rehearsing, I love to spend my free time by the water - luckily Hamburg has more than enough of it."
The current cast will be performing until July 31, 2023 at the Mehr! Theater am Großmarkt to see. From August 2, 2023, the new cast will then take over the roles.
The 25th anniversary of the first Harry Potter book will be celebrated with a spectacular event at Hamburg's Rathausmarkt. On August 26, 2023, Harry Potter and the Enchanted Child, Carlsen Publishing, Warner Bros. Discovery, Audible and Hörverlag invite you to an unforgettable Harry Potter Day. Visitors can expect a diverse stage program all about the magical stories, including a special guest: Rufus Beck, who lent his voice to the German Harry Potter books.
The highlight of the day will be the attempt to set a world record: More than 997 people dressed as Harry Potter are expected to transform Hamburg's Rathausmarkt into "Potter-Platz". All information about the event can be found at www.back-to-hogwarts.de.
At the moment, no Harry Potter tour of the country is planned, according to organizers. Until Harry Potter perhaps enchants in other cities like Frankfurt, it is worth traveling to Hamburg.
