HESSIAN DOCUMENTARY FILM DAY celebrates premiere

HESSIAN DOCUMENTARY FILM DAY celebrates premiere

On Sunday, 26 January, a special premiere will be celebrated in numerous cinemas in Hesse: On the occasion of the anniversary year of AG DOK, the 1st HESSIAN DOCUMENTARY FILM DAY will take place. The event is at the same time the prelude to a series of nationwide events to mark the 40th anniversary of AG DOK.

The HESSIAN DOCUMENTARY FILM DAY is to take place annually from 2020 in cooperation with Hessian cinemas. The audience throughout Hesse will be shown documentary films under a special motto. In the first year, this will be "Closer to Reality". In a time of loss of credibility in the media and in politics, the importance of the documentary film, which lives from the closeness to their protagonists and topics, should be emphasized. In conversation with filmmakers and the audience, the 1st HESSIAN DOCUMENTARY FILM DAY aims to get closer to important contemporary issues and question the relationship between documentary film and reality.

In the first year, the organizers are focusing on a select number of cinemas. In perspective, the number of participating cinemas is to be expanded and more cinemas in rural areas are to be won over for the project. By playing in Hessian cinemas, the HESSIAN DOCUMENTARY FILM DAY makes a contribution to highlighting the cultural location of cinema throughout Hesse.

With over 900 members, AG DOK - Arbeitsgemeinschaft Dokumentarfilm is the largest independent film association in Germany. AG DOK is represented in numerous bodies (including FFA, VG Wort, VG Bild-Kunst) and is committed to strengthening documentary film in cinema and television. In addition to the Frankfurt-based AG DOK Bundesverband, there are regional groups.
