Hotspot Frankfurt - From Saturday, the Corona rules are tightened

It was yes to expect that the infection figures after the holidays again rise. This can be observed everywhere in Germany - but especially in Frankfurt. Here the values rise day by day clearly - on Thursday on 409.2 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants. Thus, the seven-day incidence on Thursday was significantly above the value of the previous day (378.1). Since the beginning of the year, the incidence value has increased by nearly 50 percent. And there is no easing in sight. On the contrary, this trend is expected to continue in the coming days.

So Frankfurt will be above the hotspot limit of 350 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and seven days for the third consecutive day on Friday, January 7. Thus, on Saturday, 08.01, the tightenings specified in the Coronavirus Protection Ordinance of the State of Hesse take effect.

What does this mean in detail? First, the mask requirement will be expanded and will apply in specified areas of the city center (see below). There will also be a ban on alcohol in certain places. For events in public spaces, starting Saturday, 2G+ (vaccinated or recovered plus test or booster) will apply indoors for more than ten participants and 2G (vaccinated or recovered) will apply outdoors. Prostitution sites must be closed again.

It is important, according to Health Officer Stefan Majer, that everyone continues to follow the AHA rules: "Keep your distance, wash your hands, wear a mask - what was right at the beginning of the pandemic still applies today. With these simple rules, we slow down the spread of the virus. This is even more important than usual in times of rising incidence." Wearing a medical (surgical) mask or an FFP2 mask is especially important indoors, as well as in situations where a sufficient distance of at least 1.5 meters cannot be maintained. However - and it is sad that this has to be said again and again after almost two years of the pandemic - these are of little help if they are not worn properly over the mouth AND nose.

"As before, it is important not to underestimate the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. Right now, we are seeing increasing numbers of cases presumably related to the omicron variant. Wearing a mask remains an effective protection against infection and is therefore essential, especially at the moment," said Dr. Peter Tinnemann, head of the Frankfurt Health Department. "In addition to the AHA rules, vaccination is a protection against a severe course. There are numerous free appointments at the vaccination center and at the city's special vaccination appointments - even on short notice. Protect yourself and others."

An overview of city vaccination services and special vaccination appointments can be found online at frankfurt.de/coronaimpfung.

The vaccination center at the trade fair is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Appointments are available for ages twelve and older: www.terminland.de/impf-frankfurt/online/Impfzentrum_Messe_Impfung_ab_12_Jahre
