Ice cream time at ALEX!

ALEX rings in ice cream season with classics and trendy new creations

Large outdoor patio at Skyline Plaza invites you to soak up the sun

As temperatures rise, so does the desire for delicious ice cream! Meeting up with friends or family and enjoying delicious ice cream in the bright sunshine - you can only be in a good mood. So it's no wonder that the per capita consumption of ice cream in 2016 was 7.9 litres, which - depending on the size - corresponds to around 110 scoops. That equates to around 30 to 55 visits to the ice cream parlour you trust. In short: Germany loves ice cream!

This was not always the case. Although ice cream was enjoyed as far back as ancient China and antiquity, it required glacial ice or snow to make and, by its very nature, neither was always available. It was not until the 16th century that the production of ice-cooled dairy cream succeeded as a precursor to dairy ice cream. After the first cafés and ice cream parlors opened in France and Italy, according to tradition, the idyllically located "Alsterpavillon" in Ham¬burg was the pioneer in Germany in 1799 and offered its guests "frozen" for the first time. Today's "ALEX im Alsterpavillon", popular with tourists and locals alike, continues this tradition together with 39 other establishments of the adventure gastronomy chain throughout Germany, serving popular classics and new ice cream trends from the beginning of April (start of the new ice cream menu).

Even though vanilla and chocolate are the best-selling ice cream flavours in Germany, people like to try out new things. This year, these include such tempting creatio¬ns as Crème Mascarpone Nectarine, Forest Fruit Panna Cotta or the new Erd¬nut Caramel Cup, which caresses the palate with vanilla and chocolate ice cream, salted Erd¬nuts and caramel sauce. The ice cream creations, which are served in trendy jars, not only look good, but can also be ordered with two, three or four scoops of ice cream. ALEX shows its heart for children with ice cream sundaes created especially for the little ones and decorated in a particularly child-friendly way.

An ideal place to eat ice cream is the large, sunny outdoor terrace of the ALEX branch in Skyline Plaza, which offers plenty of "holiday from everyday life" atmosphere with its loungy ambience and great view of Frankfurt¬ten. If the warm spring sun should take a short break, ALEX mixes freshly baked, hot waffles and other desserts with and without ice cream.
