Intercultural Weeks celebrate Frankfurt's diversity

(kus) "kultur leben in Frankfurt" is the motto of the Frankfurt Intercultural Weeks (IKW) on 17 days in 30 districts with 177 events. From Saturday, November 4 to Sunday, November 19, initiatives, associations, churches and institutions invite you to get to know Frankfurt's many facets.

With the motto, the Initiativkreis, which prepared the IKW, focuses on the cultures living in Frankfurt: "In the encounter, a unique, shared city culture emerges. It is only here that culture can reinvent itself and continue to develop. This year, the IKW will once again offer a stage for the diversity of cultures throughout the city: "Culture is an experience! It includes social and church sponsors as well as municipal offices and institutions.

Visitors to this year's events can, for example, get to know the Polish fairytale heroes Lolek and Bolek, cook Tatar food or try out games from all over the world. They can also find out what migrants' favourite places and people are in Frankfurt. The youngest visitors can listen to readings of their favourite stories in German and Turkish, English or Farsi. And it's not just the older ones who will be interested in the exhibition "That's not old age yet, is it? They are also welcome to get creative themselves: perhaps by making pottery, cooking or breakdancing?

Sylvia Weber, Head of the Department for Integration and Education, is delighted with the commitment of those involved: "They have been working on this programme for months. Every single offer contributes to bringing people together in the city districts and to having a cross-cultural and cross-generational effect. Last but not least, the IKW open up new insights into our vibrant city."

A foretaste will be provided by the opening ceremony on Friday, November 3, starting at 7 pm, at the Gesellschaftshaus Palmengarten. In her official greeting, the head of the department for integration and education will pay tribute to the commitment of numerous Frankfurt residents. A one-hour stage program will present excerpts from the planned events and whet the appetite for more. Visitors will be able to obtain further information about the IKW programme at small stations. Culinary delights will round off the evening, which will end with live music by the Besidos from 9.30 to 11 p.m.
