Jonathan Zelter gives concert debut in Frankfurt

Since Jonathan Zelter started playing the accordion at the age of five, there was nothing else in life for the meanwhile 24-year-old man from Mannheim by choice but music. After graduating from high school, he put all his eggs in one basket and recorded his first album. Now the young singer-songwriter will be performing on a big live stage in Frankfurt for the first time on 11 May with his second album in his luggage. Together with his band, he will perform in the Jahrhunderthalle club.

He is particularly excited about making his concert debut in Frankfurt: "I can still remember my first visit to Frankfurt at the music fair," he reveals to us in the interview. "There, as a little boy, I was strumming away on accordions that were far too expensive. Back then, I never thought I'd get to play a concert here." For him, this is a dream come true.

With his song "Ein Teil von meinem Herzen", which is now one of the most played songs at weddings, Jonathan Zelter sang his way into the hearts of German pop and Schlager fans alike in 2015. He himself doesn't like to be pigeonholed and is happy to position himself somewhere in between genres. "It's not that when I write a song that I then say: today I write a Schlager or today I write a pop song. The bottom line is that something comes out of me that engages me and then I bring that to the stage," the singer-songwriter said. The fans don't have the same attitude as the media, who like to give artists like him a label. So it has already happened to him that fans have come up to him at the autograph table, telling him that they were at a Toten Hosen concert yesterday and are going to see Andrea Berg next week. "I think it's very nice that nowadays the borders are getting more and more blurred and that in the end it's all about making music." And Jonathan Zelter can do that very well.

Authenticity is very important to the young artist. So he then brings his songs on stage exactly as they are created at his home or in the rehearsal room. "In the end I would never bring something on stage where I don't stand behind it", Jonathan Zelter tells us, because it is simply enormously important to him as an artist to only do what he likes himself. That's what makes his songs so honest and credible. Like the song "From Mannheim to New York", which he dedicated to his best friend from school days. While he moved to Mannheim after graduating from high school, she moved to New York. But their friendship has endured the long distance and the long separation. This very catchy song is dedicated to such friendships, where you feel like you saw each other every day even after a long time.

To be able to reach as many people as possible with his music, Jonathan Zelter will do many live gigs. In addition, he also continues to write new songs, at least four of which he will also present alongside the well-known songs at his concert in Frankfurt. We are curious - of course about the performance in the club of the Jahrhunderthalle, but also about what else we will hear from Jonathan Zelter in the future. And after his very charming and musically wonderful visit to our Frankfurt-tipp editorial office, we hope that will be quite a lot.
