LAND und GENUSS Messe offers a number of highlights again in 2019

From 22 - 24 February, the grounds of messe Frankfurt will once again be transformed into Hessen's largest farm when the enjoyment and adventure fair LAND UND GENUSS is held here. Of course, once again with some great highlights such as the Hessian Evening with Bäppi la Belle and the Chef of the Year, Jan Pettke (Saturday, 23.2. from 5 - 8 pm) in the bag. In addition to more than 350 exhibitors, who will present the best that Hessen has to offer to visitors at their stands, young and old can also look forward to many other attractions.

Genussvolles aus Hessen

The LAND und GENUSS invites visitors to feast and taste. Numerous direct marketers offer their cheese and sausage specialities, baked goods, fine top wines, spirits and many other fine products. A varied programme with cooking shows and gourmet tastings awaits visitors on the Landküchen stage. Around the "Resting Place of the Hessian Regions", gourmets can discover the great culinary and tourist diversity of the Odenwald, Rhön, Taunus, Wetterau, Vogelsberg, Waldeck-Frankenberg and Marburg-Biedenkopf. Visitors can also find out about "Organic from Hessen" and "Certified Quality from Hessen".

Classics and urban food trends

What delights for the palate and eyes await gourmets right on Frankfurt's doorstep will be on display at the "Regional Marketplace " of the Frankfurt Agricultural Association. The "Marketplace of Manufactures" puts the spotlight on urban gourmet trends and presents modern craft food at its finest. Whether craft beer, craft spirits or original street food - there is something for every taste. Selected manufactories offer products that convince through their attention to detail and their special origin. In the "Grill Village" on the open-air site, visitors to the fair can see for themselves that grilling is not just a red-hot passion in summer.

LAND und GENUSS-Trophy

Another highlight of the experience fair is the LAND und GENUSS-Trophy. The enjoyment competition for regional and artisanal specialities will be held for the second time to accompany LAND und GENUSS. Among others, wine, beer and craft beer, spirits, fruit wine, green sauce, ham, ice cream and honey will be represented. In the tasting zone at Stand H 15 in Hall 1.2, trade fair visitors can sample the award-winning products from the LAND und GENUSS Trophy directly.

Agriculture at your fingertips

The LAND und GENUSS offers exciting insights into all facets of agriculture. The "Out in the Country" world of experience with farmers from the region, animals and tractors invites visitors to get to know rural life and domestic agriculture better. The offerings of the Modern Agriculture Forum will once again be a point of attraction for trade fair visitors who want to find out about and discuss modern agriculture. AgrarScouts will be on hand to answer questions on all aspects of agriculture. In the outdoor area, experts invite visitors to learn interesting facts about various farm animal species, such as Galloways, as part of an animal show.

From classic cars to high-tech machines

Modern agricultural technology is of great importance today for a safe supply of food to the population. At the outdoor exhibition area, visitors to LAND und GENUSS will learn what agricultural technology can achieve using modern agricultural machinery as an example: In direct comparison with historical machines, the rapid technological progress can be experienced in a particularly impressive way. The focus this year is on soil cultivation.

City and countryside in dialogue

Together with partners such as the Frankfurter Landwirtschaftlicher Verein (Frankfurt Agricultural Association), the LandFrauenverband Hessen (Hesse Rural Women's Association) and the Amt für den Ländlichen Raum beim Hochtaunuskreis (Office for Rural Areas of the Hochtaunus District), DLG is offering a comprehensive information and experience programme during LAND und GENUSS, which invites dialogue between city dwellers and farmers. As part of the "Frankfurt Agricultural Dialogue", farmers from the region will provide information about their work and discuss current challenges for agriculture in Hessen and the conurbation with representatives from politics and business. Visitors are cordially invited to participate in the discussion. This time the focus will be on the question: What is regional food worth to us?

In Focus: Organic in Hessen

Hessen is among the leaders in Germany when it comes to organic farming. Visitors to LAND und GENUSS can find out about the topic of organic farming, Hessen's organic model regions and the "Bio aus Hessen" and "Geprüfte Qualität aus Hessen" quality seals at the event fair. Supplying daycare facilities and school canteens with regional and organically produced products is an important concern for many parents. So far, however, the demand often fails because limited budgets supposedly do not allow for organic products. The Association of Organic Farming will be providing information on the possibilities of offering regional and sustainable catering in daycare centres and schools on Friday afternoon, parallel to the trade fair.

Forest & Wild

.With partners such as the state enterprise HessenForst, StadtForst Frankfurt, the Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald, PEFC as well as the Landesjagdverband Hessen, visitors will learn everything worth knowing about the topics of forests and forestry as well as hunting and can expand their knowledge, for example, in a "rolling forest school". The "Without Forest" exhibition provides information on the diverse functions of forests - from species and biotope protection to timber use, local recreation and drinking water supply. In the "Wild Grill Village" on the open-air site, everything revolves around local game. Several times a day, various types of game will be prepared on the smoker during barbecue shows. Also taking part will be the Landesjagdverband with its "Wild auf Wild" initiative, a Hessian hunting school and suppliers of game specialities.

Holiday on the farm

Numerous Hessian farms regularly open their farm gates to show visitors how regional specialities are made. At LAND und GENUSS, visitors can get valuable tips for trips to the countryside. For a relaxing holiday in the countryside, farms, equestrian centres and winegrowers will once again be presenting their attractive holiday offers in Frankfurt. Among them are the award-winning "DLG Holiday Farms of the Year".

At home in nature

The garden experts at LAND und GENUSS have the right tips for every green thumb: From home gardens to urban beekeeping, amateur gardeners and nature lovers can experience their green wonder at the fair. Visitors can get ideas, lectures and decoration tips in the "Green Room", among other places.

Urban Beekeeping - Beekeeping in the City

One focus of LAND und GENUSS this year is wild and honey bees. Wild bees are among the most important pollinator insects and are indispensable for maintaining the natural balance. In Germany there are about 560 species of wild bees, of which about 400 species are found in Frankfurt am Main. BUND Frankfurt provides information about important forage plants as an indispensable food source for these useful animals. The allotment gardeners of Frankfurt will focus on their wild bee show garden as well as beds, insect hotels and nesting possibilities. Those who want to take a closer look at bees can do so at the bee embassy with the help of microscopes. There will also be workshops and a "Throne Royal". Suggestions for urban beekeeping, i.e. beekeeping in the city, will be provided by the BeeFriends Frankfurt. Here you will find practical information on honey bees and beekeeping equipment. At honey tastings, the focus is on enjoyment!

Green wave in garden and home

Once again this year, LAND und GENUSS has numerous suggestions in store for hobby gardeners and nature lovers. Real garden professionals show how it's done: whether it's your own garden or creative balcony planting - with a little know-how and skill, interesting garden dreams can be realised anywhere. If you have problems with your "green thumb", the plant doctor from the LLH Garden Academy will answer all your questions about plant health. Of course, you can also try your hand in the garden world of LAND und GENUSS: exciting planting activities await young and old.

Ecological diversity: regional gems

LAND und GENUSS takes visitors on a tour of the diversity of Hessen's meadow orchards. This traditional form of fruit growing owes its name to the fruit trees scattered over the area as if by chance. As a rule, rare and old fruit varieties can be found here. In addition, meadow orchards can be home to up to 5,000 species of animals. Insects, birds and bats in fields and meadows also play a major role at LAND und GENUSS: Experts from the Hessen State Association for Fruit Growing, Gardening and Landscape Management will be providing information on bird protection and nesting opportunities. NABU Wetterau will be presenting a "bat trail" and bat boxes. Native wild insects and their food plants will be the focus of the Hesse Allotment Gardeners' Association.

Children's and family programme: discover country life through play!

The adventure fair has a lot to offer for young and old: In the five adventure worlds Countryside, Forest & Game, Garden, Indulgence as well as Sustainable Nutrition, there are many learning and hands-on activities that inspire enthusiasm for country life, agriculture, regional food and the conscious interaction with nature. When visiting the outdoor area with stables, animals and tractors, children learn how farmers work. Admission for children up to the age of 12 is free of charge. Of course, children can also get active themselves: For example, squeezing oatmeal for breakfast, grinding grain, sowing cress, planting flower pots or on the straw bale course with pedal tractors. On Friday, things get really sporty: then the Eintracht Frankfurt football school with football legend "Charly" Körbel invites you to the dribbling course.
