Lord Mayor Feldmann welcomes reopening of gastronomy - but...

Before Frankfurt's restaurants are allowed to reopen this Friday, Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann took a look at the still-closed Restaurant "Margarete" on Braubachstrasse to see for himself how restaurants are preparing for the post-Corona launch. The city leader was particularly keen to find out about the implementation of the specified measures to contain the Corona virus. "It is good that restaurants and Cafés can now reopen - similar to what has already happened with the playgrounds, museums, the zoo or the Palmengarten, there is a great urge among the population to finally spend their free time or their lunch break outside again.", says Feldmann.

It is clear that adherence to hygiene rules are the top priority here: "It is especially important in this period of relaxations to observe the distance rules to continue to leave no chance for the spread of the virus," Feldmann said. But he is also aware that there is still a huge need for improvement right here. Feldmann can understand the criticism from the restaurant industry of the rule that restaurants are allowed to serve one guest per five square metres: "This is often hard, because for many it is not worthwhile to open their restaurant for just a few guests at all. All other states are more pragmatic than Hesse in this respect," said the mayor, who spoke out in favor of aligning Hesse's special path with the national standard in the interest of the restaurant industry.

In view of these regulations had the Initiative Gastronomie Frankfurt e. V. (IGF) called for Friday to the action #leerelokale. Because as good as the relaxation measures may sound on paper, so problematic is their implementation. As is the case for many theatres and cinemas, it is simply not feasible from an economic point of view for numerous catering businesses to operate under the current guidelines. It is understandable, after all, that the state government would want to exercise a certain amount of caution in the face of so many relaxations. After all, none of us wants the relaxations to have to be reversed in a matter of weeks. But if relaxations are decided, which have to do with the reality cordially little, that is just as little meaningful.

Therefore it is to be hoped that the federal state government in the area of catering and culture once again improves - and that also the guests adhere to the necessary regulations. Because in the end, this crisis can only be overcome together.
