LUCAS breaks new ground in funding

International festival for young film fans launches first crowdfunding campaign

An initiative of kulturMut of the Aventis Foundation in collaboration with the crowdfunding portal StartNext

Active phase: 16. January to February 16, 2017

LUCAS International Festival for Young Film Fans is now breaking new ground in funding. The International Festival for Young Film Fans, which has already completely reorganized itself in terms of programming and personnel in 2016, is now also evolving in terms of fundraising and tapping into new sources.

In doing so, the festival makers are firmly relying on audiences, friends and fans. 20,000 euros are to be acquired via the kulturMut initiative of the Aventis Foundation in collaboration with the crowdfunding portal StartNext and the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain to help finance the festival week in October 2017. It is in competition with another 29 projects that are participating in kulturMut this year and want to mobilize money over a period of about four weeks. In order for "Crowdfunding LUCAS to be a success, as many supporters as possible must be recruited between 16 January and 16 February. If the funding target of 20,000 euros is not reached, nothing is lost. Then it depends on the placement within the projects. The Aventis Foundation will provide an additional 250,000 euros to fill the financial gaps of the most successful projects. The decisive factor is not only the amount raised, but also the number of supporters. Anyone can help, and they can do so at startnext.com/LUCAS via instant bank transfer, direct debit, credit card or prepayment.

"Mitmischen!" is the name of the participation programme at LUCAS, which was significantly expanded in 2016, according to the festival's artistic director, Cathy de Haan: "It's a fundamental concern of ours to convey that you can make a difference through commitment. Crowdfunding also relies on participation and initiative, she said. "We are therefore convinced that LUCAS and this type of funding are a good fit and that we will make our first crowdfunding project a success, de Haan said.

Each supporter will receive an attractive return service when crowdfunding LUCAS; among the thank-you gifts are an exclusive screening at the Deutsches Filmmuseum cinema, festival bags, festival passes for LUCAS, one of the limited tickets for the opening and awards ceremony, tickets for the Deutsches Filmmuseum cinema, LUCAS T-shirts, and craft and coloring materials for children. Donation receipts can, of course, also be issued for crowdfunding contributions.

LUCAS fans and those willing to donate simply log on to Startnext from Monday, January 16, and help the festival with even minimal contributions of one euro to:
