Magistrate decides to redevelop ice rink

40-year jewel box at Ratswegkreisel

(ffm) The magistrate has approved a submission to the city council to upgrade the ice sports hall with a whole bundle of measures. The ice sports hall, which opened in 1981, is used for public ice skating, training by numerous ice sports clubs and by the Lions ice hockey team.

In order to further ensure the attractiveness of the ice sports hall, renovation measures are necessary in several areas. In detail, these are: technical upgrading of the supply corridor between the hall and the outer ring, new surfacing for tennis courts in the outer ring, renovation of various rooms, new hockey boards, replacement of hall lighting with LED technology, renewal of the outdoor ice rink, new chairs in the hall, new lockers in the strap-on hall and new membrane roof for the outdoor area. In total, the costs amount to around 3.8 million euros.

The individual measures will be carried out over the next few years without hindering use for games and public skating. Head of Sports Markus Frank says: "After almost 40 years, extensive renovation and modernisation measures are being carried out on our jewel box at the Ratswegkreisel. This means that the ice rink will retain its functionality and appeal, which many citizens from the city, from the region and from the clubs like to appreciate." He is sure that the city council will also approve the upgrade of the aging ice sports hall
