#MainBecher and Vytal - cooperation for more sustainability

Ffm. Even before the reusable supply obligation comes into force, the plastic-free reusable system #MainBecher of the FES launches a unique cooperation with the digital reusable system Vytal, known from the TV show "Höhle der Löwen". Waste avoidance in the take-away sector is now even easier for Frankfurt residents.

Since 2019, the plastic-free #MainBecher system has been a reusable offer in Frankfurt that makes it easier for Frankfurt residents to avoid disposables. Since then, more than 130 participatory cafés have exchanged the wooden deposit token of the clientele for the cup during the daily coffee-to-go serving and vice versa.

However, at the latest since the beginning of the pandemic, it has become clear that the take-away food sector and the use of various delivery services cause far more disposable waste. Time is pressing, because from January 2023 the so-called reusable supply obligation will take effect throughout Germany. This obliges catering businesses to fill containers brought in by customers and - depending on the size of the business - to offer reusable systems.

In addition, the city of Frankfurt has set itself the goal of becoming a Zero Waste City and has even signed a "Circular Cities Declaration". This can only succeed if citizens and catering businesses are given an effective solution on how they can rely on reusable instead of disposable waste in the future.

This is why a unique German initiative is starting on Tuesday, 4. October, a Germany-wide unique cooperation for environmental protection: The regional cup system #MainBecher cooperates with the digital, deposit-free reusable system Vytal - known from the VOX founder show "Höhle der Löwen". Vytal is Europe's largest digital reusable system and promotes reuse through its clever system, which has already saved over four million disposable packages in Germany. The #MainBecher is then available instead of previously in exchange for the deposit stamp now by simply scanning the applied QR code on the new cups. Best of all, it now only takes one app for everything, to-go eating and drinking. From #MainBecher becomes in Frankfurt #MainMehrweg.

For all previous #MainBecher customers, the following applies: until the end of October, the previous deposit token can be exchanged for their own new, plastic-free organic cup, after which the deposit token is no longer available and the system only works via the Vytal app. This way, customers only pay if the reusable cup is not returned. Those who do not want to use an app can buy an offline card at participating establishments. This is scanned, as well as the QR code in the app, before use along with the dishes.

The cup system is then available without a deposit, but digitally and, above all, still plastic-free from lignin - a residual material from the paper industry. The system can also be used via delivery services. All that is required is to copy a code from the Vytal app into the field provided for this purpose when ordering a delivery.

An app for everything - and even with tracking of how many packaging units are saved as a result. The Vytal reusable system is also certified with the "Blue Angel" eco-label - a sensible addition to the plastic-free cup. The Vytal app can be downloaded free of charge from the App Store or Google Play Store.
