City Councillor O'Sullivan presents current statistics on International Women's Day
Women continue to make up the majority of Frankfurt's city population. As of 31 December 2024, 50.5 percent of registered residents were female, according to the latest statistical surveys. A total of 392,136 women were living in the Main metropolis as their main place of residence.
On the occasion of International Women's Day, Eileen O'Sullivan, the department head responsible for statistics, pointed out the long tradition of the women's movement in Frankfurt. The first political women's associations were organised here as early as 1848, O'Sullivan recalled. "Frankfurt was and is an important place for women's rights," she emphasised.
The Dornbusch district, where almost 53 per cent of residents are female, has a particularly high proportion of women. In absolute terms, most women live in Bockenheim, with around 22,800 people. The Bahnhofsviertel, on the other hand, has the lowest proportion of women at 39.3 per cent.
The cultural diversity of the city is also reflected in the composition of the female population. Around 31.6 per cent of women are foreign nationals - in the station district, this proportion is as high as 50 per cent.
At the same time, economic differences between the sexes persist. Although the income gap between women and men has narrowed in recent years, men are still more frequently represented in higher income brackets. A significant proportion of women, on the other hand, have no income of their own.
