Multimedia Fraport Visitor Center opens on August 2

Nearly 30 innovative exhibits to touch and interact with: Frankfurt Airport comes alive!

A new attraction opens at Frankfurt Airport on August 2: The multimedia Fraport Visitor Center in Terminal 1, Hall C welcomes guests just in time for the vacation season. The interactive world of experience lets visitors of all ages experience the fascinating world of aviation.

On 1,200 square meters of exhibition space, nearly 30 innovative exhibits present exciting insights behind the scenes of the airport and flying. In the process, visitors not only experience ongoing airport operations. There are also a variety of ways to look back at history, gain insights into the technology surrounding flight operations and look ahead to the future of air traffic.

Numerous exhibits invite visitors to interact. For example, guests can demonstrate their skills in directing an A320neo to its parking position. Another highlight to try out is a virtual roller coaster ride through the baggage handling system. "Our multimedia visitor center makes it possible for our visitors to experience and understand the diverse and highly complex world of the airport up close," said Dr. Stefan Schulte, CEO of Fraport AG. "The new highlight of our visitor facilities is also an important building block for intensifying the long-standing dialog with people in the region and beyond."

The most technologically sophisticated exhibit in the exhibition is "The Globe". The interactive LCD wall consists of 28 screens. Connected together, they create a screen with an area of about 25 square meters. Large enough to show all flights around the globe in real time. The system is unique. Nowhere else in the world can thousands of flight movements be displayed in such detail. The flight data for "The Globe" comes from the U.S. company FlightAware. Fraport cooperates with FlightAware in data processing. This also benefits flight operations at Germany's largest air traffic hub. With the help of the data provided, flight operations processes at the airport can be planned even better in advance.

After two years of construction and construction costs of around 5.7 million euros, Fraport has already completed the exhibition area in the fall of 2020. "Due to the pandemic, we had to postpone the opening several times. I am therefore all the more pleased to be able to present our guests with a new destination. Fascination Airport is writ large here," says Anke Giesen, Fraport AG Executive Board member responsible for Retail and Real Estate.
