For a long time there has been speculation about how things will continue with the Caricatura Museum in the future. Now the head of the department of culture, Ina Hartwig, has presented her decision for a new arrangement for the Museum of Comic Art, which was previously part of the Historical Museum. According to this decision, the Caricatura Museum will be artistically independent and administratively supported by the Department of Culture from 1 April onwards. Mayor Peter Feldmann welcomes the new set-up: "I am delighted that the Head of the Department of Culture is strengthening the Caricatura - and with it a tradition that has been kept alive in Frankfurt for forty years by the Titanic, but which goes back deeper, to the time of Friedrich Stoltze and the Paulskirche Revolution. Frankfurt is the capital of satire."
In the future, the house, which celebrated its tenth anniversary last year and saw a record number of visitors, not least thanks to the successful OTTO exhibition, will be decoupled from the History Museum. "With this new arrangement, I would like to strengthen the artistic autonomy of the house. This offers the museum the opportunity to expand its collection and develop the house further. I am very pleased that all those involved have contributed to this good solution," says Head of the Department of Culture Hartwig. In addition, Claus Wisser, entrepreneur and patron of the arts, will take over the chairmanship of the museum's board of trustees from next year onwards and will support the museum on its way forward.
