As beautiful as some places in Frankfurt may be, they are unfortunately not safe from vandalism and littering. And so they have to be protected, even if they would look nicer without fences. One such place is Frankfurt's Nizza on the northern bank of the Main. Here, work is now beginning on a fence that will protect the exotic garden in the future.
The Nice, with its many Mediterranean and subtropical plant species, was created around 1860 as one of the first public green spaces in Frankfurt and is now a listed building. The plants benefit from the southern exposure and the protective walls, which create a particularly mild microclimate here.
In recent years, there has been an increase in rubbish deposits and damage to the plants in the Nice. As an "emergency solution", the areas were initially surrounded provisionally with a construction fence.
The new fence will be a 1.60 metre high bar fence, following the historical model. It will be locked at night and during major events.
The work to erect the fence will begin with the drilling of the posts for the fence elements and gates and is expected to last until March 2019, so the fence will be ready in time for the new season
