New mobility stations and car-sharing services for Frankfurt

The city of Frankfurt am Main is launching an extensive mobility project: over the next five years, around 950 mobility stations are to be set up throughout the city to promote networked and sustainable mobility. These stations will bundle various means of transport such as car sharing, bike and scooter sharing as well as local public transport at central locations. This measure will be accompanied by a significant expansion of the car sharing offer.

"A comprehensive and functioning mobility network is the key to changing people's behavior in the long term," emphasizes Wolfgang Siefert, Head of Mobility. "The new mobility stations will make it easier to switch between modes of transport such as trains, e-scooters, cargo bikes or car-sharing vehicles and thus create order in public spaces."

The mobility department and local transport company traffiQ are implementing the project together. The first pilot stations are scheduled to go into operation as early as 2024, with full implementation of the concept planned by 2029. In addition to smaller stations in inner-city areas, larger mobility stations at transport hubs are also planned.

Another highlight is the expansion of the car-sharing service: the city plans to offer car-sharing across the board, with the aim of providing at least one car-sharing vehicle per 1,000 residents. By 2025, the fleet is set to grow from the current 550 to 760 vehicles.

With these measures, Frankfurt is taking an important step towards the mobility transition and creating attractive, user-friendly alternatives to private cars.
