It may be just a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things, but it's definitely a step in the right direction: in all HANS IM GLÜCK brand burger grills, plastic drinking straws are history from the beginning of December. From now on, an ecological variant will be used here.
Long was searched for an alternative to plastic. Now the decision was made: In all burger grills in the DACH region, the plastic straws will be replaced by a biodegradable, 100 percent plastic-free and industrially compostable variant. The new pearly white drinking straws consist of two-thirds genetically unmodified sugar cane and one-third minerals and fibers. In contrast to drinking straws made from pasta, they are gluten-free and, unlike conventional paper drinking straws, completely tasteless. In addition, HANS IM GLÜCK will in future refrain from serving its hot drinks with drinking straws. This is a small but important contribution to reducing plastic waste. Important because one such step can be followed by many others.
This is also Thomas Hirschberger, founder and owner of HANS IM GLÜCK Franchise GmbH, aware: "As one of the best-known burger concepts in Germany, we feel responsible for setting a good example and also making the switch to the new drinking straws as quickly as possible. Of course, replacing the plastic straws is only the first step and we would like to tackle more sustainable projects in the future."
