No subways between Willy-Brandt-Platz and Südbahnhof

02.01.2018 | 14:39 Clock | Service
No subways between Willy-Brandt-Platz and Südbahnhof

Please switch to suburban trains

(kus) Due to switch construction work at Südbahnhof, there will be no subways between Willy-Brandt-Platz and Südbahnhof from Monday, January 8, to Sunday, January 15. In time for the end of the holidays, however, the trains will run as scheduled again.

As an alternative during the interruption, the suburban trains are available. From Hauptwache, these will run in the direction of Hauptbahnhof and via Konstablerwache to Südbahnhof. Tram lines 15 and 16 connect Südbahnhof with the Schweizer-/Gartenstraße stop, while line 16 continues from here via Hauptbahnhof to Ginnheim.

Also on the further route, lines U1, U2, U3, U8 and U9 are partly not running as usual: lines U1 and U2 end at Willy-Brandt-Platz. When boarding, please note that the U1 line in the direction of Ginnheim departs from the usual platform, while the U2 line in the direction of Gonzenheim departs from the platform in the direction of Südbahnhof. The U3 line will only run between Oberursel-Hohemark and Heddernheim, where it is possible to change to the U1 and U2 lines. The U8 line will not run during the construction phase. If you want to get to Riedberg, you have to change at Heddernheimer Landstraße from the U1 to the U9 line, which runs longer and has more cars. The night trips of the line U8 between Willy-Brandt-Platz and Heddernheim take over the trains of the line U1.

The reason for the diversions: Four switches are being removed in the turning and stabling facility at Südbahnhof and replaced with new ones. Back in October 2017, four switches were also replaced in an initial construction phase. The last complete replacement of the turnouts was about 15 years ago. Their service life depends on load and wear, which are extremely high on the A line. More than 400 trains per day and direction travel there, and around 100,000 passengers use the lines every day. Lines U1, U2, U3 and U8 terminate at Südbahnhof and transfer to the opposite direction at the turnaround.

The municipal public transport company traffiQ and the VGF recommend their passengers to inform themselves before starting their journey and to plan for longer journey times. The timetable information on the Internet at <link http: www.rmv-frankfurt.de _blank>
