For the third time, Frankfurt's station district is hosting the "Open Quarter" neighbourhood festival: On Saturday, 6 September 2025.
"This event originated in the neighbourhood and is aimed at anyone who wants to get actively involved in the Bahnhofsviertel. It impressively demonstrates how much creativity, diversity and commitment there is in this district," emphasises Councillor Wüst. Around 23,000 jobs, 3,500 residents and approximately 150,000 commuters and tourists every day characterise the neighbourhood. "Openness, togetherness and a welcoming culture are what drive us," Wüst continues. She expressly praises the close cooperation with the trade association as a key partner.
The Open Quarter once again offers a varied cultural programme on five stages at well-known locations in the district – Kaisertor, François-Mitterrand-Platz, Wiesenhüttenplatz, Jürgen-Ponto-Platz and Niddasack. Between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m., visitors can expect electronic music from international DJs, urban block parties with soul, funk and hip-hop, and a relaxed "open-air disco".
Numerous social institutions, associations, churches and mosques are also opening their doors and providing insights into their daily work. The participation of the institutions is financially supported by a fund from the trade association, with applications for up to £500 possible. In addition, the programme offers guided tours with city expert Uli Mattner, competitions, a photo box from FFM.MEME, live painting, performances in public spaces, installations and walking acts. Families can look forward to a children's area with a play area and ice cream van at Niddasack. Nazim Alemdar, chairman of the trade association, looks back with pride on the development of the festival: "What began in 2023 as a bold experiment to reposition the station district in a positive light has now become an integral part of our neighbourhood. Today, Open Viertel is much more than just a festival – it is a key driver for improving the image of our neighbourhood, highlighting peaceful coexistence and creative potential."
Alemdar particularly emphasises the commitment of local businesses and residents, as well as the support of the City of Frankfurt. In addition to the city marketing and economic development departments, cooperation with local start-ups, media partners and Eintracht Frankfurt contributes to the positive dynamic. Open Viertel is financed in part by the city's marketing department. Its director, Eduard M. Singer, emphasises the special significance of the event: "Open Viertel is a prime example of an open urban society. It shows what this neighbourhood is all about: diversity, creativity and humanity." The full programme and further information on Open Viertel 2025 will be available on the website viertel.app from 1 August.
