Opening hours of inpatient vaccination services in Frankfurt over Christmas and New Year - UPDATE

Update from 23.12.2021: VACCENTER FRANKFURT ALSO OPEN ON HOLIDAYS!

Good news for all those willing to be vaccinated at Christmas: The Health Department continues to expand vaccination capacity to offer Covid-19 vaccination to all Frankfurt citizens quickly and easily. With the support of the German Red Cross (DRK), the vaccination center will also be open during the holidays. Due to the updated vaccination recommendation of the Permanent Vaccination Commission (STIKO) for the Covid-19 vaccination, it is expected that even more people will want to be vaccinated. Vaccinations on these days are only possible with an appointment. Vaccinations will only be given with Moderna.

The vaccination center will open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 25, 26 and 31. On Jan. 1, the Immunization Center will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Only on Christmas Eve, December 24, will the Immunization Center be closed. Eine Terminvereinbarung unter frankfurt.de/coronaimpfung is required. Vaccination on these days will be exclusively with the vaccine Spikevax from Moderna. It is recommended for everyone over the age of 30, with the exception of pregnant women.

Special vaccination campaigns will also take place between the years. Some dates are currently still available. They can be found on the website frankfurt.de/sonderimpfaktionen can be booked.

Original news from 20.12.2021: At the moment, Frankfurt is vaccinating and boosting for all it's worth. With the omicron wave looming, that's a good thing. Every vaccination helps to delay this wave as long as possible. That's why there will continue to be vaccination offers between the years in Frankfurt's vaccination center and at the Hauptwache. However, there is also a small break: on Christmas Eve, Christmas holidays, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, these vaccination services of the city will be closed for a short time, otherwise they will be open between the years.(See update above for current change)

"For everyone, the common Christmas season is upon us. A time of reflection that we all wish for after this challenging year. It is also a time when families come together and people gather in close quarters. Therefore, it is everyone's responsibility to protect themselves and their families. Vaccination is one component that will help us overcome the pandemic," said Dr. Peter Tinnemann, head of the Frankfurt Health Department.

The Vaccination Center at the Fair is open seven days a week, 14 hours a day, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Several hundred Frankfurt residents are also vaccinated daily at the popular vaccination center at Hauptwache. In addition, the Health Department offers additional special vaccination campaigns in many parts of the city. All current dates and opening times are available at frankfurt.de/special-vaccination-campaigns.

After the short break at the turn of the year, the vaccination center at the fair will resume regular operations in the new year immediately on Sunday, January 2, 2022. The Immunization Center at the Main Guard will begin regular operations on Monday, January 3, 2022.

A prior appointment is required for all special immunization events and for the Immunization Center at the Main Guard. Appointments are also recommended for the Immunization Center at the Fairgrounds. Appointments can be made on the website at frankfurt.de/coronaimpfung.

All special vaccination events currently use Moderna's vaccine (Spikevax). Persons younger than 30 years of age and pregnant women should be vaccinated with BioNTech's vaccine (Comirnaty). Vaccinations with BioNTech's Comirnaty currently take place only at the Vaccination Center at the Fair.

Switching vaccines offers advantages. "Switching vaccines is hassle-free. Moderna's vaccine is as effective and safe as BioNTech's vaccine. There is evidence that more neutralizing antibodies are produced by switching from one mRNA vaccine to the other," explains Dr. Udo Götsch, department head of infectious diseases at the health department.

An identification card, a vaccination card if available, and the health insurance card should be brought to the vaccination appointment. For children and adolescents under 15 years of age, a guardian or custodian must be present. Likewise, the health department asks that the educational note sheet and the medical history and education sheet for vaccination against Covid-19 with mRNA vaccine be completed in advance and brought to the vaccination appointment.
