Planning start for the new Rebstockbad

As we had already reported to you HERE, the Rebstockbad, which was opened in 1982, will be torn down and rebuilt in the coming years. A two-stage Europe-wide planning competition was held for this purpose. After intensive deliberations of the high-ranking jury, the design of the planning office Geising + BökerArchitects from Hamburg was awarded first prize. The new building is urgently needed - not only because after more than 35 years there are structural and technical problems due to the age. Also the enormous popularity of the bath with annually approximately 600,000 guests, makes the establishment of a replacement new building at the established location absolutely sense.

The innovative and highly experienced planning team from Geising + Böker, led by architect Rolf Böker, was also able to convince in the award procedure that followed the planning competition and was commissioned with the general planning of the new Rebstockbad. Planning for the new Rebstockbad began in February 2021.

Boris Zielinski, Managing Director of Frankfurter Bäder, explained at the presentation of the plans: "The start of planning for the new Rebstockbad is an important milestone for Frankfurter Bäder. We are looking forward to the constructive cooperation with the planners and the positive future prospects for the beautiful new Rebstockbad."

City councillor Markus Frank emphasises at the press event: "The future Rebstockbad will be a showcase project in the baths landscape! The new construction of the Rebstockbad is of central importance for securing the future supply of leisure and water areas and the possibility of active leisure activities in Frankfurt am Main."

Water rats can look forward to a great new swimming pool. Because according to the plans, the new Rebstockbad building will have a supra-regional appeal in the Rhine-Main area, in addition to its function of providing regional services for the city of Frankfurt. The wide-ranging needs of a visit to the pool - from sporting aspects to an opportunity to spend leisure time with family and friends to health and wellness-oriented offers - will be optimally taken into account in the profile of the new Rebstockbad. The redesign of the Rebstockbad will therefore be "elementary" in the truest sense of the word and the entire new building will be given an attractive theming. In addition, a flexible and modular conception of the main areas of use "sports swimming", "adventure pool", "sauna" and ancillary room areas will optimise the possibilities of use of all areas and ensure the attractiveness for all guests. An important component of the new Rebstockbad continues to be the energy and resource-saving, ecological as well as economical construction and operation with consideration of environmental and climate protection.

The new Rebstockbad will be a real mammoth project. With over 18,000 square meters of gross floor space and over 2000 square meters of water surface, it is one of the largest swimming pool projects in Germany. The functional sports pool will meet the requirements of schools, clubs and athletes in particular with a swimmers' area suitable for competitions, a teaching swimming area and a diving area. In the exciting adventure area, a variety of attractions, for example a wave pool, a lazy river, various heat pools and areas for families with children offer an exciting and varied bathing experience. Action can be found in the slide and active area, which will initially be equipped with three adventure slides, with the possibility of adding more slides at a later date. The sauna area offers a break from everyday life, with interesting saunas, cold and warm pools, relaxation areas and a spacious sauna outdoor area. The main uses of the new Rebstockbad will be supplemented by a wellness and spa area as well as the administration of BäderBetriebe Frankfurt.

A total investment of approximately 89.5 million euros net is planned for the new Rebstockbad building project. The closure of the existing Rebstockbad is scheduled for the end of April; replacement pools will be built at the Hausen open-air pool. The start of construction for the new Rebstockbad is conceptualized for the beginning of 2023, the opening is planned for the end of 2025.
