The population of the Main metropolis has continued to rise. At the end of 2024, 776,843 people were registered as having their main residence in Frankfurt, according to the latest figures from the city's statistics office. Compared to the previous year, this corresponds to an increase of just under 6,700 people or 0.9 percent. "Frankfurt is maintaining its attractiveness and is once again growing faster than in the previous year," explained Eileen O'Sullivan, the city's head of statistics.
The population growth is mainly due to the influx of foreigners. While the number of German residents rose by around 2,600, the number of foreign nationals increased by more than 4,000. A particularly large number of new Frankfurters came from Ukraine (1087) and India (701). The proportion of foreign nationals increased to 32 percent. The largest group continues to be the Turkish community with 24,344 people, followed by 15,280 Croatian nationals.
The largest districts remain Bockenheim with 45.051 inhabitants and Gallus with 44,976. The smallest are Berkersheim and the Bahnhofsviertel, where around 3,900 people live.
The figures illustrate Frankfurt's international character. If German citizens with a migration background are also included, 57.7 percent of residents have family roots outside Germany. "The international significance of our city is clearly reflected in the population structure," summarized O'Sullivan.
