Preview of the VDP.GROSSEN GEWÄCHSE®

160 international wine professionals will taste the new vintage of Germany's top wines

At Wiesbaden's Kurhaus, everything will revolve around the pinnacle of German wines: the VDP.GROSSEN GEWÄCHSE® until Tuesday, 22 August 2017. 160 of the most influential sommeliers, wine merchants and journalists from 23 countries will get a comprehensive picture of the new top wines at a set tasting in the run-up to the official start of sales on September 1.

The tasting is regularly praised by experts as the world's best organised wine presentation. Over three days, the 160 guests will have all the wines brought to their seats in specially arranged flights of their choice.

"2016 is once again an excellent vintage with perfect harmony and elegance. It gives us long-lived wines that will give us much pleasure to come. Nobody would have thought this possible after the cool and wet spring, but a fabulous late summer turned everything around," says the positive assessment of VDP.president Steffen Christmann.

620 VDP.GROSSE GEWÄCHSE® will be brought to market by the 178 members of the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates (VDP) as new releases in 2017. In Wiesbaden, 421 wines from 249 sites of 124 wineries will be presented to the professional tasters from 23 countries.

On the recently introduced third tasting day, motto "Everything but Riesling", the wine experts are allowed to dedicate their sample entirely to the Burgundy grape varieties (Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir) as well as Silvaner and Lemberger, in order to focus on Riesling on the other tasting days. With more than 250 wines, Riesling is the most frequently shown grape variety.

The official premiere tasting for the professional audience will traditionally take place on September 11 in Berlin as a prelude to the TOUR VDP.GROSSE LAGE®. The tour will then continue in Munich, Hamburg, Cologne and Oslo in early spring 2018.

Already on September 10, wine lovers can discover more than 400 wines from Germany's best vineyards, more than 80 vintner personalities and 1 VDP.Traubenadler - at the VDP.Vinissage in Berlin. Among them, of course, are some of the new releases. More info on the events at <link http: www.vdp.de _blank>www.vdp.de

VDP.Die Prädikatsweingüter

The VDP is the oldest national association of top wine estates in the world. 198 Prädikatsweingüter have imposed strict quality standards and benchmarks on themselves - from vineyard to bottle. The four-level VDP.classification pyramid defines the quality of their wines according to their origin: VDP.GUTSWEIN, VDP.ORTSWEIN, VDP.ERSTE LAGE and VDP.GROSSE LAGE. The VDP grape eagle on the bottle capsule is the quality seal. It stands for a terroir-formed and artisanal vinification
